I have never once suffered from a kidney stone until I had weight loss surgery 2 months ago. I suffered from one last month and now I am suffering from other this month. The weird this is this stone is sticking around longer then last months stone. Last months stone was gone in a day. This months stone has been around for  5 days now. I am in such severe pain and not know what to do anymore. I have done everything in my power to get this stone to leave but its being a buggar and staying. I have taken vicodin and percoset and the nesuea  and vomiting are still hanging around and I havent really eaten in 5 days.  Ho****er and heating pad helps for a few minutes. I am in terrible pain. I saw a uralogist last month with the first stone and he said he would see me back in 6 months and that the first one would pass. But now the 2nd one is still around longer and the pain is getting worse and worse by the day. The doctor said the stone is small about 2mm but this pain feels worse then last months pain. I never suffered from kidney stones but now I had weight loss surgery, i have had 2 in 2 months...... I think this surgery is to be blamed.  What can I do to ease the pain? I need help with this,,,,,5 days and the pain gets stronger day by day.

You need to get in to see the urologist again because they need to know how big the stone is and where it is located in your system.  (What they can do to help you depends on what kind of stone it is and whether it is in the kidney, ureter, or bladder.) If the stone is not passing, they may need to do something to help it pass.  The most likely reason for the stones developing is that you are not drinking enough.  Also, be SURE that the calcium you are taking is calcium citrate not calcium carbonate (which contributes to kidney stones).

Unfortunately, the only thing that will ease the pain is pain meds and getting the stone to move through your system.  Some people here indicated, and my urologist verified, that lemonade and orange juice can help with calcium stones (which are the most common kind).

I, too, have had problems with kidney stones since my RNY.  I am almost 6 years out, never had a stone in my 45 years before my RNY, but am now on round three of stones in the last 6 years.  My stones are uric acid stones rather than calcium, and I cannot get the procedure done to full the kidney with dye so they can see the stones and then break them up with sound waves (uric acid stones don't show up on X-rays, so they have to do the dye to know where to target).  Fortunately (because my stones are too large to pass on their own (8mm and 10mm as of three weeks ago)), my stones are staying in the kidney (but one is oartially blocking the junction of the kidney and ureter) and only causing pain intermittently. When it hurts, though, it REALLY hurts.  I cannot get the lithotripsy done until the 19th. Unfortunately, it is a matter of pain management (via narcotics at home or going to the ER for Morphine or Dilaudid when it gets unbearable****il then.

Call the urologists's office in the morning. I hope you can get relief soon!

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

When I had my stone they told me when you have the WLS it is very common. I think it has to do w/ the protein.

I hope you feel better.

It can be due to excessive protein consumption (but not all RNYers eat a very high protein diet) and can also be related to diets high in oxalates or to taking calcium carbonate supplements (which we cannot absorb, anyway).  I have been doing some research on kidney stones and diet since I have several large uric acid stone, and was planning to post about it anyway, so I will do that in just a bit.
