One got lodged had a GI ****tail today numbed everything up ty maalox finally feel like it went down! I really pissed off my GERD and gastritis in the meantime though. My surgeons office said at 2 wks post op pills no bigger than a pencil eraser but i figured at 10 weeks out almost i could do a normal sized pill. Apparently a stool softener for me is not!

How far out were you when swallowing pills bigger than a pencil eraser.... i wonder why i had such a hard time last night when before i was doing great and able to keep them down in well over a week. I guess i have esophagitis too uhg the pill caused an erosion on the way down or lack of. I am really trying  to see the light at the end of the tunnel about when this all gets better. I feel like i have had nothing but problems since my RNY. Gastritis, gerd, esophagitis, possible disk issue in my back, bad constipation, allergic reaction to surgical glue, nausea daily. Trust me i know this could be worse but i am seriously bummed i am having such a hard time.. and just when i think it gets better something else arises.

Please tell me it gets better!!! I am already on sooooooo many medications 10+ and i am only 28... just my meds alone is a full-time job... and i have an infection too but that is unrelated to my surgery.

I was swallowing small pills in the hospital after surgery and taking the petite calcium pills at less than a month out. I have never had anything get stuck.

I am sorry you have had so many issues.  I can definitely understand why you would be discouraged.  I wish I could tell you when it will all end, but I broke my crystal ball a while ago, LOL.

Yeah i always feel like it's something but i am trying to remain positive. I've had dumping and sliming now all at almost 10 weeks post-op. I know all of these meds aren't "forever" but still stinks.

P.S you need to buy another crystal ball

I was swallowing pills the size of a pencil eraser about 12 hours after my operation and swallowing large pills maybe two weeks post op.

If you could previously swallow pills and now you can't, I wonder if you might have a stricture?  However, it sounds like you're saying the pill got stuck in your esophagus, and that would not be related to RNY because during this they don't operate on your esophagus at all.  When people talk about RNY causing pills to get stuck, that would be pills getting stuck in the stoma, the small opening between the pouch and small intestine.

I've never had anything get stuck.  I have occasionally swallowed a pill and felt like it didn't go down easily and felt like it was caught in my throat somehow.  A few extra drinks takes care of that.  But that happened to me occasionally before I had RNY, too.

I never really had a problem swallowing pills in fact i used to be able to swallow up to 4 or 5 at the same time with one sip of water and they went down. This pill felt like it was caught in my throat i was trying to burp and they would get stuck and i would feel the pill when i burped then again my chest was hurting too though so i don't know if the throat was just really irritated from hacking and that is why i felt like something was still there. All i know is i LOVED that GI ****tail they gave me it numbed everything. I am still able to eat and drink all though i do have nausea daily. I had an endoscopy a few weeks ago which showed no stricture.

I started taking pills before I left the hospital.  I have had instances where a pill felt stuck in my esophagus however that quickly resolved with a few drinks of water.

I was not allowed pills until week 8, only liquid meds or crushed pills.

I suppose I should consider myself very lucky.  At the hospital, I was swallowing huge pills.  The pain pill they gave me, my regular calcium pills and the fish oil capsules are all pretty large.  So far, no problem with any pills.  My multivitamin is pretty big, too.
Hopefully, this is just a temporary problem for you.

Try cutting the ones that are not time released in half.  I think it will definitely get easier for you, give it time. The more you are convinced you have a problem, the bigger the problem will get.
