Question about changes to taste buds?

I've always loved my coffee first thing in the morning prior to my surgery. I even began to drink it decaffeinated and black in preparation for my surgery and I still enjoyed it. I couldn't wait to have my coffee again decaf and black with Splenda just recently. To my surprise my coffee no longer smelled or tasted good to me. It actually smelled and tasted like burned coffee and I couldn't even drink it. I even bought a small decaf from Starbucks and the smell and taste were burned as well. Once again I couldn't drink it. Has anyone else's taste buds changed since having revision surgery? I didn't experience this with the lap band.

I had a similar experience, and wondered if I was going to be giving up a life-long coffee habit--however, the taste change only lasted for a few weeks for me, and I am back to enjoying my coffee again:)

Yeah, cannot stand decaf coffee.  Never could.  That being said, coffee did smell and taste burned to me until about 3 months out.  Now I have my cafe au lait  each morning and love it!  My taste buds seem not quite so sensitive now at 5 months out.

I eat a lot of things that I couldn't stand before surgery.  It was explained to me that this was normal. :)

So there's hope I'll actually enjoy my coffee once again some day?!  Excellent!  I miss my daily morning routine.  Thanks for cheering me up!

I've noticed it the most with milk. Almost 11 months out and milk still tastes different to me. I can still remember what it used to taste like and I miss that taste. Oh well, keeps me from drinking it too much, since I don't care for the flavor much anymore.

I experienced rather same thing.  I really miss my coffee and hope my taste buds like it again in the future.  I drink hot tea right now, it seems to soothe my stomach and feels my need for something hot.

The first morning home after surgery I got up and made coffee like I always did only to find out I could not stand the taste nor the smell of coffee. It tasted burnt and strong and nasty. My morning coffee had been my thing for so many years and suddenly I couldn't stand the taste of it. After 5 months I was able to drink and enjoy it again. I never switched to Decaf either.
