No interest in eating much of anything...I have to force my protein in
I am just over 3 months post-op and I am struggling. I was doing well the first 2 months but the last month or so I haven't wanted to eat anything. I'm only hungry (and this is a very slight hunger) in the morning about 2-3 hours after my workout. This is when I usually have my Unjury protein shake. Then, the rest of the day I'm not hungry. I stay busy and don't think about food (yes, I know this is GREAT and wonderful) but sometimes then I get to 6 or 7 pm and I realize....the protein shake (and maybe a string cheese) is all I ate the whole day. I know I have to get my 70 grams of protein in but the thought of food just makes me feel icky, I don't feel hungry, and nothing tastes good so why bother eating? I usually end up drinking another protein shake and maybe a hard boiled egg to just make my 70 grams. I think I would rather just plan to drink 3 protein shakes a day and call it good but I know that probably isn't the best option. Did/Is anyone else having this? Believe me, I know not always feeling hungry and thinking about food all day is a good thing but I also know my body needs certain things to function and I am struggling to get enough in. I see the dietician in 2 weeks and plan to discuss with her then but that's still 2 weeks away!
Thanks for any input.

Enjoy this early stage. You will never in your life have this experience of no hunger, being happy with a small amount of food, nothing tasting good and losing weight so easily. I did go to all shakes for a long time and ended up with some bathroom problems due to no fiber. Hunger comes back, weight loss slows down, food tastes better. This is all part of the journey. None of us jumped off the operating table and starting eating all our protein grams, drinking all our water and doing all of our exercise the first day.
Oh, girl. You and I are living double lives. :-) I'm only a little over a month out and I have absolutely no appetite, which is awesome in some ways. No question. But I know I've got to eat at least something and my doc wants me to get most of my nutrients from food (my post op care plan in general isn't very detailed, which is another issue). I have no protein targets I'm supposed to hit (I've only been getting in around 40 grams of protein a day), but I'm having at least one shake a day, otherwise I wouldn't eat anything worthwhile.
I'm at the pureed food stage and nothing sounds good to me. Nothing. I had scrambled eggs last night and melted some cheese into it. That was one of my fav pre-surgery breakfast items. I practically gagged getting it down. Meat has been very tough. I've tried chicken and ground beef so far. I did better with the latter, but I was still a little queasy for hours afterwards.
On the weight loss side, it's great. I've lost 28 pounds in four weeks. But I am beginning to get concerned about the long-term.
This too shall pass. I am almost nine months out, and when I had my three month checkup I was concerned enough about my lack of appetite that I asked my surgeon and nutritionist. They told me it was because of hormonal changes from the surgery, and if I was lucky it would last six to nine months.
Food is still your best choice, but you must get your protein in every day. If you have to, use another shake, but at this point, treat protein like medicine. Some foods taste different after surgery, so you will have to experiment.
Take advantage of the lack of appetite, and don't fear it. It's a gift, and it will change. But do force yourself to do what you need to do for now.
