Upper GI test came back fine but I still can not tolerate foods without vomiting or feeling sick

I have had an upper gi test and it came back fine. I have had a small bowel series and that came out fine.  But I can not tolerate food and drinks without vomiting or without feeling sick to my stomach. The only foods I can handle without vomiting are: pretzel rods, cheese, crackers, and a baked potatoe. I have tried other foods like grilled moist chicken, that will sit in my stomach until it comes back up.  I have also tried other foods like noodles but it doesn't sit well with me and it will come back up.  I can not handle anything else. But my tests came back fine. The only thing that came out was my gallbladder needs to be removed because it looks sludgy and a little puffy. But then I go back to the doctor and he tells me it doesn't need to come out. I know the foods I can tolerate aren't healthy but I am at the point hell, if i can eat it without feeling sick or throw it up, I am gonna eat it.  I don't know what else to do.

Try eating : Refried Beans with cheese, Ricotta cheese with speg sauce, Chili, pudding with protein added to it, Lasagna soup with no noodles, taco soup, Greek yogurt, heck just yogurt.

The foods your eating arent good, and the chicken is something that takes a while to be able to eat. Chew more, count to 20 chews before getting another bite, go slower, put fork down between bites.

Does drinking water, crystal light, broth, make you feel sick?

Perhaps the vomiting/feeling sick is a sign that you've eaten too much?
I'm not sure..
I know that rice, chicken, pork, beef, fish & some veggies were really hard on me for a while.
Perhaps a call to your surgeon's office to see what they suggest might be in order.

I'm not sure how far post-op you are.. but maybe they'll have some advice to help too.

If it's any help.. oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits & ground beef have been my saving graces.
Yogurt & cottage cheese too.

Don't forget to chew chew chew chew..

Best of luck *hug*

Thanks, I have tried just about  everything and anything from scrambled eggs, to refried beans, to yogurt. Nothing sits with me well.

I assume that you have already tried anti-nausea meds and that they didn't help.  Did you try more than one kind (since some work better than others for different people)?

What has your surgeon suggested at this point?

If there is nothing wrong with your digestive system (although I realize that not everything can be seen, and that there could be other medical things going on), and even the anti-nausea meds don't help, given that the foods that you are able to eat (other than the cheese) are completely devoid of protein or any vitamins -- and in the case of the pretzels and crackers are snack foods -- I would respectfully suggest that you consider counseling to see if the nausea and vomiting are psychological in nature.  Occasionally, people get things kind of twisted up in their mind in terms of the strong desire for weight loss and/or the expectation of problems with eating post-op and/or the idea that the less they eat the faster they will lose, and those things can actually cause them to become ill when they eat.  Counseling with someone familiar with various kinds of eating and somatic disorders can help identify the root of the psychological problem and that then eliminates the problem eating.

Are you at least taking your vitamins and drinking some form of protein supplement?  If not, you may be seriously endangering your health and may suffer side effects (some of which may effect your weight loss) down the road.  I do hope you can resolve this soon.

I had this same issue in January and got a diagnosis last month.  I thought for sure something was stuck or my stoma was closing up or something.  Turns our that my pouch just can't handle dense foods like beef, hamburger, rice and most dense breads.  Bummer because I LOVE all of those.  Anyway, I ended up inflaming my pouch because I ate those things and it caused me a lot of pain.  Now that I've figured out which foods to avoid, I haven't had the pain anymore.

What I did was go back to the "liquid" phase of my plan for 3 days and then go to the "soft-food" stage for a couple of days.  Gave my tummy a rest and now I avoid the dense foods.

Hope you find answers for your tummy, it sure can be miserable when the pain hits!

You are not much more than a month out. I was only having protein drinks at that stage and when I started getting nausea from them my doctor had me change the brand of protein mix. That worked for me.  My earliest foods were eggs, ricotta cheese and greek yogurt.

I've had my gallbladder out, but lots of people are put on Actigall for their gallbladders as part of the surgery for about 6 months. Did your doctor prescribe anything for your gallbladder?  Maybe it would help you feel better.
