Surgery scheduled & scared!!

I am scheduled to have my band (from hell) removed and revised to a gastric bypass ( the only revision approved by my insurance). My surgery date is July 2nd.. My surgeon requires a liquid only diet for 2 weeks prior & 90 days post surgery. Honestly,I am scared to death to have the bypass. My Dr. says my results will be better... I only lost 36# from the band...all of which I gained back, because all I do is vomit. Anyway.... Of all the people I know, only 2 have had success, minimal complications & love their bypass results. The others I know that have had the urgery have ended up in ICUS, had major complications or 1 friend died of sepsis .. Can anyone share with me their results? Also, I'm mortified of the idea of losing my hair.
Thank you

Okay, deep breath. Steady. You are freaking yourself out.
Every surgery has risks. The majority of people here do not post to say all is well but lots of us here didn't have any problems.
Telogen effluvium, which is what causes hair loss, is a side affect of general anesthesia, not of bypass.
Is there another surgery that you want instead of bypass?

Bypass is the only ting covered by my insurance. I am no stranger to surgery... I had ovarian cancer and had surgery every other year fr 10 years... with no hair loss. I think the majority of my anxiety come from the fear of- what will happen to my child if there are complications or death. Mommy guilt/ fear.

I think you will do great and feel better, after 2 weeks, than you have in a long time.  Stay in touch!

Wait a second. Liquid diet for THREE AND A HALF MONTHS!? What is the reason behind that? That seems really, really extreme to me. I would find out why he thinks that a liquid diet is appropriate for that length of time. I was on mine 22 days pre-op (due to a scheduling glitch, should have been 14 days) and then 8 days post-op. I still am 60% liquid, but 40% soft foods. I really cannot imagine being 100% liquids for 3 1/2 months.

I don't know how much you have to lose, but at 333, I felt like I was at more risk by NOT having the surgery than having it.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

What is the ramifications if you don't get it, think of that, no RNY is not an easy path, but u have to look a year from now, if u don' t get it, will u be healthy? All of us went thr this stage, believe me I did. I am 3 weeks out and tolerating everything, any major surgery has risks they tell us that all the time, I had 2 knee replacements, if Ilistened to what could of been, I would still be in excruciating pain. Ask yourself, what is best for me to lose the weight and be healthy or stay as I am, there are more success stories then the other, is it risky, yes,but is not all major surgery. God's Blessings in helping u decide, in the end it is your decision, lean on God, he will see u through.

Thank you for that. I am so very scared also and you helped. I also need knee replacements and am worried about the number of major surgeries that will be coming up in my life. I am 65, are there many in my age group that have survived the surgery successfully. The pictures seem to show much younger women.
