Got most of my labs back

My total protein is 7.3 and my albumin is 3.9, with me getting about 90 grams protein a day.  I want to cut back on my dairy products some, so I will probably be decreasing the amount of protein I get a little.

My vitamin D is 96, and that's with taking 50,000 IU D3 three times a week, plus whatever is in my multi and my calcium citrate supplements.

My iron is 96, and that's with taking 75 mg carbonyl iron daily, along with 500 mg vitamin C.  It seems my ferritin isn't back yet, although it shouldn't take so long for that result, but I don't have it here on my lab report.

My B12 is 1860, which is more than it was last time I had labs done (it was something like 1260 last time).  I've been doing B12 shots weekly, so I am going to try cutting back to every other week for a few months and then see where I stand.

This lab says my folate is high at >24.  Their reference range says >17 is "excessive."  However, the lab I've used in the past doesn't say anything about >17 being excessive, and last time mine was >23 and it wasn't flagged as being high.  I'll ask my PCP when I see him, which probably won't be for a few weeks.  I don't take any folate beyond what's in my multi and it's pretty much impossible to find a multi without folate in it, so I can't really cut back on how much I take.

My B6 and vitamin A aren't back yet.  Everything else looks OK.

That is great news, Kelly!

I just got my labs yesterday from my 6 month check up and I have a question for you.

My serum protein is 5.7 which is a "low" for my lab.  Their range is 6.0 to 8.0.  My concern is that in February for my 2 month check the serum protein was 6.0.

I asked my Nurse Practioner what that meant and she said not to worry about it.  I looked it up online and it says that a low reading of this is indicative of malnourishment.

Any suggestions?  My dietician said I should start eating (are these the complex or simple?) carbs now if I wanted as in healthy whole grains, sweet potatoes, brown rice.

I do eat vegetables and fruits.

Thanks for any input, Kelly.

I like my protein level to be at least 7.0.  If it was below 6.0,  would be pretty concerned.  How many calories do you eat in a typical day, and now many grams of protein?

Yes, those are complex carbs, and those are good things to eat.  But you may need to boost your protein and your calories, too.  You might wanna add a protein shake in for a snack.  That's a really easy way to get some protein and calories without getting too much fat or sugar.

Thanks for responding, Kelly.  I get in about 800 calories a day and I am only at about 60 gms of protein a day.  Some days, I do get in about 70 but typically I am around 60-65.

I already use a protein shake for a snack but it only has about 20 gms of protein so I may need to add yogurt or cottage cheese or something to it for more protein.

I am still only able to tolerate about 1/2 cup of food at a sitting before I am "full".

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I will up my calories and add in a protein snack or two to see if that helps.

This might explain why I still feel somewhat tired most days.  My other labs are all really good.  Towards the high end or over.

Again, good for you and thanks for the help.
