I knew it was coming and I know it will pass. I am completely off pain meds but I thinking coming off them is what spurred this. I had my first real melt down pity regret session. I don't logically really regret surgery I just had all those fear anxiety and worrie**** at one time. I am lucky to have a good support system. My mom was really great at talking me through it and let me cry. My hubby also just wrapped me up in his arms and let me cry reminding me of the good I've seen in such a short time and that this was the right choice. I guess I'm right on schedule. Off pain meds, getting all fluids, protein, supplements, and meds in. Two week break down and slight depression - check. Three week stall - here I come . I guess all I can do is let myself feel what I feel. Acknowledge it and move on! I owe everyone here some thanks for preparing me for the typical stages. Thanks everyone for sharing. I hope this passes soon

Ah--I think that is so normal to have these feelings (not that everyone does but well within the range of normal). I am a newbie as well--(RNY 06/10/13).  I am not having depression associated with this surgery, but I have struggled with depression a lot throughout my life.  Chances are it will pass, but take care of yourself, and if it continues make sure you let your doctor know. I have read some articles that said there can be depression in some people after the surgery.  Again, chances are it will pass.

Also--I think you may be right on target about stopping the pain meds causing some of the emotion.  You were on those for a few weeks, and your body gets a little used to them!  I have often had problems stopping/changing meds over the years (antidepressants/even blood pressure).  Usually it just takes a few days for the body to realize that "oh, I don't need these anymore."

Thanks! I can't take the standard Vicodin or Percocet so I was taking narcotics ( diloudid(sp?). I have had a few hot flashes over the last few days which I know is from stopping them so I'm defined dealing with some effects. Thanks for being so compassionate!

I think you're doing fabulous! Already able to get all your fluids, protein, and supplements in. I'm a month out yesterday and still can't quite get there yet. Great job!!!

I get extremely bad discontinuation syndrome when I have tried to stop my antidepressants over the years (stopped trying because I decided I really need them all the time, so why bother?)  I knew about discontinuation syndrome long before most doctors had learned anything about it.  In the early years, I'd have to find articles on it and haul it into appointments so they would believe me.

However, as I've said, I've even noticed it throws my body into flux when changing other meds that you wouldn't think would have any effect.  5 days prior to the surgery, they switched me from Diovan HCT (for blood pressure) to just straight HCT.  I thought I was going out of my mind.  I was SOOO irritable and really headachy/nauseated for a day or two (continued to monitor my blood pressure).  Yeck--

Get some rest and definitely would love to hear how you feel a few days from now.

Congrats on the weight loss, and the smarts to check in with yourself and acknowledge your funk. I have friends who have warned me about the weepies as all the estrogen your body cranks into your bigger self now has to regulate and get to normal in a smaller you. We all know how fun estrogen can be with PMS, this is probably a field day of hormonal ups and downs.

I havent had my surgery yet, but as my friends have been telling me what to expect, I have been giving out warnings to my son and hubby. The farty phase after surgery sounds about as appealing to me as the estrogen festival, but I am excited for the weight loss and the health, congrats to you for taking charge of your health and being off your pain meds. Getting all the right stuff in is terrific. You have a lot to be proud of.

Dancing my way to better health,

Tara
