Just a reminder, we need three or four doses of calcium citrate a day
I"m sorry they told you they would be great, but that's just not true. That is calcium carbonate, and the ASMBS says we cannot absorb that.
It's not the same ingredients as the Citracal gummies, either. The gummies have tricalcium phosphate, which we also cannot absorb.
Perhaps you can notify whomever told you these would be great that they are calcium carbonate and that the ASMBS says we cannot absorb that. I really hate to hear them advising patients this way.

Oh, sure. You can get calcium citrate in pills you swallow, in a powder you mix in a drink (like Upcal D) or in a liquid.

kelly can you please clarify those citracal petittes ?? At my meeting the other day one girl said she takes them 2 or 4 per day but i thought those were not citrate? I didnt have the knowledge to debate that. I am taking the caramel chews from BA 3 a day but if i can find a pill to take now I would like to. Since switching my multi i am getting more comfortable taking pills.

Citracal petites ARE calcium citrate. They have 200 mg calcium citrate per pill, so if she takes two a day, she's only get 400 mg. If she takes four a day, she's only getting 800 mg. We need 1500 to 2000 mg - so that would mean taking eight to ten of the petites a day.

Vitamin C is kind of optional. You don't have to take it, but if you take it with your iron it will help with the absorption of the iron. You need 200 mg C for every 30 mg iron (and that's elemental iron, so for instance if you take 325 mg ferrous sulfate, you only need 400 mg C because that's only 65 mg elemental iron).

Kelly, I take Feosol which is carbonyl iron. 45 mg for each pill and I take two each day with 1000 mg of vitamin C. Is Feosol alright to take? I get it at Walgreens. My nut wanted me to take ferrous sulfate but I told her carbonyl was better for us to absorb and she didn't like that. She also told me to take the vitamins with iron but I take 2 multi vitamins with minerals for people over 50 comparable to Centrum Silver. My surgeon doesn't run labs on copper or selenium or B1 so one of my other doctors are going to run those for me. It's strange how some doctors run complete blood work ups and some don't.
