OT a Lil *****ildbearing Post RNY- Wanting Viewpoints

My husband and I have been married for almost 7 years. We have no children together since I had tubal ligation (tubes tied) before we met. This is something that we both wish that we had been able to share together. A few days ago, my husband approached me with having a baby together. My assumption at this point is that if we do, it will have to be via in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Anyone have any experience with doing this post RNY? I would love to hear your input on this.

You might get a better overall response if you hit the pregnancy board.

Not that you asked...but one thing I will point out is that if you already have children, who I would assume are at least 10 years old if you've been remarried for 7, the change back to baby is a huge, huge change in the household. I know a few people who had babies after a large span from their older children and only one of them is glad they had a baby later in life. They were edging in on being empty nesters and were right back at it and pretty old parents, at that. Just some food for thought. If you are not both just dying to have a baby (and if he approached you, it sounds like that is not the case) then I would not pursue it, personally.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Thanks. I am aware of the age gap issue. Our joined families range in age from 9-24 years old. We have 4 all together. We have discussed being old parents.

My concern is the IVF part combined with RNY. I am just curious about that part of it.

From a midwife perspective, I can see no reason why IVF will be any different for someone with an RNY than any non-WLS'er ...   As long as you are healthy, and in maintenance, you should have as much chance of success as anyone else.

No respected Fertility Specialist should touch you until you are in established maintenance!!!

Oh, and I tried to find a pregnancy related forum here before I posted this here. I could not find one. If you know how to get to it, I would appreciate the info.

After I had WLS, back in the 70's, I became pregnant at 1 year out.  My daughter was a low birth weight baby, at 5'3" and seemed to be ravenous during her first year.  Subsequently, she has had weight problems throughout her life.  I attribute that to her weight gain and subsequent fat cell development, during that first year.  I could be wrong though!!

I'm not sure how a multiple birt would work.  They could give you IV therapy for nutrition though.

Best Wishes!!!
