Vitamins, Nutrametrix, ISOPURE, and Protein

So my nutritionist has been pushing nutrametrix vitamins www.nutrametrix.com on me, I am still pre-op and should be getting my call from insurance in the coming week. I want to be prepared for post-op and with some research I've done and looking into even older posts on this forum about this product, it doesn't seem to be too good. Why would a bariatric nutritionist be pushing vitamins that aren't the correct dosage/some of which don't get absorbed by post-op patients on all of my surgeons patients. (she works in the same office) Also it seems as if ISOPURE is the golden standard for clear liquids that many take for the week after surgery? Once you start mixing your own protein shakes, which protein have you been buying? Also it would be awesome if people could post their vitamin stacks along with links. I really want to get in what's best for me after the surgery.
For my multi I personally take: http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/Nature-Made-Multi-For -Her-Tablets?skuId=103526 I normally only buy them when its Buy one get one free. I take 2 a day.
For calcium I take http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/Citracal-Calcium-Citr ate-plus-D-3?skuId=77214 or http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVS-Calcium-Citrate-- D-Tablets-With-Magnesium?skuId=247289 What ever is on sale. Since I take 6 a day.
For Vitamin D I take http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/vitamins-and-minerals/b ariatric-advantage-dry-vitamin-d-60-180-count.html
For Iron I take http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/sundown-naturals-high-poten cy-perfect-iron-tablets/ID=prod6021585-product. I personally take 4 a day. also I take a vitamin C when I take these.
For B 12 I take http://www.walmart.com/ip/Spring-Valley-2500-Mcg-Energy-Meta bolism-Dietary-Supplement-Microlozenges-B-12-60-ct/12167374
As far as the protein, That is a hard one. I did unflavored added to drinks, but after 1 week I was doing the GNC lean shakes. And still that is what I drink. Others do the Nectar sample packs. What you like before will not always be want you like after.
Your nutritionist and/or surgeons's office may get a kickback of some kind for promoting those vitamins. Some surgeons recommend the clear Isopure because they don't know that there are other clear protein waters out there (IMO the Cytomax is infinitely better tasting, and it doesn't make your tongue feel weird) and they don't know how disgusting they are! (Ask your NUT and surgeon if they have ever actually tried to drink half a bottle of one. I highly doubt that they have. You would have to PAY me to drink one of the Isopure. yuck!)
As far as protein powders, you really cannot take anyone else's word on what tastes best because there is more disagreement on them than on anything else. Even if 10 people LOVE a particular brand and flavor, you may HATE it! Get samples of as many different kinds as you can. Www.vitalady.com has samples from a lot of different manufacturers, and some manufacturers (Unjury, Chike, Syntrax, etc,) offer samples of their products.
I just get the Centrum chewable multivitamins (I alternate the regular and the silver, one of which is orange and the other is berry), get whatever calcium citrate pills I can find on sale for one of my three daily doses (and then use the Upcal D powder available on Amazon for one dose, and the Bariatric Advantage raspberry calcium chews OR the Calcet creamy bites (both available forms ever all websites) for the other two doses each day), use whatever zinc and B complex I can find on sale, and buy the Tender Iron 60mg capsules and 50,000 IU Vitamin D capsules from Vitalady (web site above). Most of the time there is absolutely no advantage to buying special "bariatric" vitamins. In many cases, in fact, they are less appropriate for us than plainn old Centrum or generic versions of the Centrum.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Totally agree with Lora. Also, my dietician was emphatic that I had to have chewable anything which was so disgusting I could barely gag stuff down. I kept reading on here that many were swallowing pills almost immediately so at two weeks, when I was advanced to pureed, I asked if I could try taking pills and she agreed! She said that if I had no problem that was fine but if any problems... revert to chewables. I didn't care if I had to slice those pills into quarters, I was going to take them! Worked just fine for me. Labs are all stellar at 6 months out.
As others have stated on the shakes, do a search for protein powder samples. AND do be aware that your taste will change and you may develop a lactose intolerance as many of us do after surgery. So to start off, I got samples and then shopped locally because the whey proteins did not sit well with me because of the lactose. Got some lactose free powders and lactaid milk and lactaid tabs and was good to go.
Good luck and hope to see you on here with all your questions and thoughts and of course, successes!
I don't know why she is pushing those vitamins. You could ask her. She might be getting a kickback from the vitamin company.

Well, I have know people's surgeons to push Bariatric Fusion or Optisource vitamins, which don't come close to meeting the ASMBS guidelines, when they sold those vitamins in their offices.

Yeah, I actually found posts on this website from years ago where you had suspected the same thing for other patients in the past. I just can't believe they would do that for something that is so important to a post-op patient.
Doctors across this great nation of ours do it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Have you seen the drug reps march in with lunches and snacks and desserts and gifts???!!!
That being said - look out for you. AND - results - what about post op blood test results from your dr - find out the stats.

Thanks to everyone for your responses, I really have to buckle down and do a lot more studying on the vitamins post-op patients need to make sure they get a lot of. I'm going to be sure to talk to my nutritionist because she did have me putting in the website with her name at the end. Has to be some sort of pyramid scheme.
