I searched but I didn't find the recent post. I'm looking through the paperwork the hospital gave me. They said we can have Imitrex, Maxalt, Tylenol headache, or Fioricet.

It wasn't me, but I have been taking Topamax for years.  My Dr's say it's fine to take.  Topamax is for long term migraine management (or for seizures ;)  whatever you're using it for).  It's not meant as a quick headache reliever.  Fioricet is what I use as my emergency headache pills and they are awesome (except for swallowing them LOL).

Thanks for the info!

I take Maxalt. It's tiny.

Katie, is there any particular reason they only listed two of the like seven types of triptans? I currently take zomig rapimelt and no one at my clinic advised against that one - I guess I'll have to double check when I see the doctor in a few weeks. I actually go see a new neurologist tomorrow to discuss Botox for migraines :S yikes

I have no idea. That's just what's on the paper. They also don't list dilaudid, but that's what they gave me because I can't take hydrocodone. Ended up not needing it anyway. I probably have enough to last a lifetime now.

It was me.  I was looking for anecdotal experience with it as some preliminary research led me to believe it would decrease appetite.  So far it is making me super sleepy...and not much else.

I take topamax, when I need to add a mood stabilizer (off label use for it).  For me it is very effective and it is the only one that i have tried that does NOT automatically add thirty pounds.  In fact when I do take it, I usually lose about twenty. I have just started taking it three weeks ago for the first time since my RNY...and yes it can make you very sleepy.  I take it at bedtime.

That's good to know. I hope I can remember that if my psych meds stop working. How much do you take?

I mentioned it a while ago.  I have been taking it for a while so I notice it helps for my migraines but it does not do a quick fix.  I am upping my dose as the dose I am on is not working.  But I have found it is the only thing that takes away from my migraines that does not make me pack on the pounds.  I do like the added benefits that it did help with the weight loss, but if you take it you have to keep up on water, as it can cause kidney stones.    Good Luck.
