Feel so bad!

I just totally messed up! I'm on day 7 of my two week pre op liquid diet. I've been doing well and losing like a pound a day then the scale went back up like 3 pounds. I think that Since all I do is drink liquids I'm not getting in enough water because I don't feel thirsty. Well I drank a ton of water today at work and it went back down 2 pounds. Anyway. I was just fixing my son a piece of frozen chicken breast and Mac n cheese and I couldn't help but take a few bites of both. I'm so disappointed in myself because I'm cheating on the liquids and even worse the Mac and cheese!! I haven't had any kind of pasta or bread or any type of starchy carb in probably 6 months and now I do this!? Uhh. I feel like I just screwed up everything.

You'll be ok. Don't beat yourself up. Tomorrow is a new day. Get back on track. I cheated on my liquid diet also and felt terribly guilty, but I just got back up and started again.

You didn't screw up everything.

You made one poor choice.  If you'd stuck to the liquid diet perfectly today, would you feel you'd done everything perfect and were now guarranteed to succeed?  No, you'd think you'd made a good choice today and that tomorrow was a new day and you'd need to continue making good choices tomorrow.

Same with making a poor choice.  You get a chance to make different, and better, choices tomorrow.  Or even later tonight.  One choice doesn't make you or break you.

Thanks y'all! That makes me feel better! I just thought this would be easier! I didn't realize that broth tastes as bad As it does!

You can add spices or seasonings to your broth to make it taste better.  Or you can take a can of soup you like and strain it so you're left with just the broth - that usually tastes better than just canned broth. Or you can take a can of broth and simmer some veggies in it to give it more flavor, then strain those out.

You might look at this as practice for those times after surgery - which will come, at some point, I promise you - when it's hard to make good choices and when you inevitably slip up.  You can't beat yourself up then and you can't give up.  You have to just pick yourself back up, dust yourself off, and get back on track, hopefully pretty quickly.  So you might as well start doing that now.

Kelly, I thought about straining the soup also and I tried it. But when I asked my nutritionist about it she was saying how I just needed to stick with low sodium beef broth because the soup juice can have too much Sodium in it. so I guess that's a no go.

You can get low sodium soups.

Try different broth brands. They all don't taste the same. I think it was Swanson's I had. It was really good. I had some bad ones too. Can you do tomato soup?  That was on my list of liquids I could  have.  I love tomato soup and it was great when I wanted something hot.

I tend to be an all or nothing type thinker and that gets me into a lot of trouble. I really believe that type of thinking got me here in the first place. I tell myself it is progress not perfection that is important. Like the others said, it was a poor choice that's it. You have the chance again right now to make a better one. Take care.
