Important stuff to know about vitamin D
I order 50,000 IU D3 capsules from vitalady.com.

Thanks Kelly!
I get my 50,000 D3 from Amazon, have it on auto delivery so I don't forget.
I had my surgery with a surgeon other than the one who is doing my follow-up care because I moved. I am VERY disappointed at his attention to my labs. I am one year out and he seems to think that slightly low B12, D3, iron, and calcium isn't a problem and I don't need to up my doses. I wonder what would happen at my 18 month blood work if I listened? I know it's our job to monitor our body, but I wish he was more proactive in this department. I now just ask for a copy of my labs and use this site and ASMBS guidelines.
Some of it will be absorbed. We malabsorb fats, which means we don't absorb them completely. We do absorb some.

Thank you for posting this. I just checked my 6 month labs (didn't have 9 month labs done) and my D level is 70.2. According to what you just said it is too low. I take 5500 iu daily. So this isn't enough, correct? I will have my yearly labs done in August, but may ask my PCP to do a draw this week, just to see if it has dropped and by how much. I wonder if this could be the reason for my fatigue and depression? What do you think?

Very helpful--thanks!
I am taking 15K a day right now and have my labs drawn in about 3 weeks (at 11 weeks out).
You are such a great knowledge bank--appreciate you sharing your research! :)

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
I take 50,000 IU of D3 once a week (super cheap at Amazon fyi). That has kept my level nearly perfect for the past year and a half. When I first got surgery, I took it daily for the first few months, then started cutting back to the current once-a-week level per my blood tests.
FYI, I don't take the dry D3 because it doesn't seem to matter to my blood tests... but I could totally see that mattering to some patients... you may have to experiment a bit.
That's probably the biggest key.. experiment and keep an eye on those blood levels like Kelly says.
