Psyching myself up!
I have my surgery on Wednesday morning and have been going over and over things I need to remember to help make recovery easier, both mentally and physically. Here's what I've come up with so far.....
1. I will most likely gain a few pounds while in the hospital from the air and fluids they give me, but these lbs will go away in a few days. Do not panic!
2. It's possible I could have a stall around 2 to 3 weeks out, so don't freak out!
3. Sip, sip, sip. Walk, walk walk.
4. Constipation could happen. Or not. Everyone is different and either is normal.
5. When the time comes to try solid food CHEW until mush.
6. Protein first.
7. Could have hormone dumping, with mood swings, etc. It's normal and I'm not losing it. lol
8. Get those vitamins in faithfully!
Can you add anything to this? I feel so ready for this, but I'm afraid I'm going to forget something really important

Sounds like you have a very good handle on things! You have already covered the really important stuff.
Just a couple of minor notes. You may very well be able to do more than just sip fluids. Many people are able to take small normal swallows at just a couple of days out, so you can gradually increase the size of your sips as long as it doesn't cause discomfort. Taking larger sips or swallowing normally (as you are able, of course) will make it easier to get your fluids in and avoid dehydration.
It is not at all uncommon for it to take more than a few days to get rid of the extra fluids given in the hospital, so don't worry of it takes a week or so. (The "air" they use, BTW, is actually gas which has no weight (and there is only a small amount that they cannot express before they close you up, anyway).)
Diarrhea is just as common early post-op as constipation, and is just as normal especially if you don't stay on pain medication for very long.

Thanks, Lora! I hope I'm one that can handle more than sips. It's good to hear that's a possibility, because I'm already concerned about not getting enough fluids in. And I was not aware it was actually gas they use to expand your tummy! This journey is a learning process....I learn something new all the time. Another reason I love this site. Thanks for the info!

Hey, girl. I'm two weeks post op today and EVERYTHING you've written has happened! I DID put on like 5 lbs POST surgery and almost cried in the dx office. IT all melted off, plus more, within a week. I'm two weeks out, and HAVE stalled and panicked, but this wonderful forum told me not to panic.
You can do this!!!!
