3weeks post op and depressed

I had surgery June 19th and it sure hasn't been easy. If anyone thinks this is a walk in the park  they are mistaken. I have lost 19# started at 191 and 183 preop now 172#. I feel good  some days and not so good other days. It seems like I'm always nauseaous alot of the time. I struggle to keep my water and food in and nothing tastes good.   I had a horrible pain on my left side for a week and finally it is getting better. I have been keeping up with the and am aware of the 3 week stall so im not weighing myself until i go to the doc on the 24th.   I walk for an hour a day around my island mostly because i don't want to get out in the heat. I'm wondering if there are any more light weights out there. I know i won't loose as fast as most due to the amount of weight i have to lose but im wondering if I'm doing ok so far. Constipation has been a problem but i now am eating prunes as a meal everyday that helps alot. I have a bm at least every other day. Nothing seems to  taste good on this soft diet. I just wish i could enjoy some food at this point.

I also don't have any family here so im am lonely allot my husband works allot. We are moving in a couple of weeks and i have not had any energy to pack. Feeling a little overwhelmed.

I am three weeks out and I am having a hard time also. Some problems about having the surgery make me really down and my weight loss seems to just crawl along. I don't think it is easy for everyone, but I do know we can get through this to better days. Some things I am trying are journaling and a support group. Remember you did this for good healthy reasons and there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there. You will get through this!!!! Take care.

Thank you!! I appreciate your support that is what this forum is for. It's a great help. There is nothing easy about this. It's a major surgery and a major life adjustment. I hope that it does get better and we will be able to enjoy meals with out family. It is meant to be a blessing to us not a burden or revolting. Prayers for you and your family we are all going through this together it effects the rest of our lives and those in it. Hoping for happier days ahead. I believe in miracles:)

Personally, I would feel like a hamster in a wheel if I walked around my kitchen island. Why not walk around your whole house, do a bunch of stairs and walk the whole house again?

Days 3-6 post-op my husband and I went and walked the mall. It was super-air conditioned and interesting things to see as we cruised on by. Plus bathrooms aplenty, which is always nice.

You will feel nauseated if you are dehydrated. Make sure hydration is your #1 focus, protein a close second. Have you tried ice pops instead of actually drinking?

Are you generally a 'make it through the pain' person or a 'succumb to the pain' person? I am absolutely a make it through the pain person. It is almost a point of pride to not be a big baby about things. I push myself through pain so I will feel better, sooner. Rip the band-aid, you know?

What on the soft foods are you not liking? Have you tried scrambled eggs, refried beans, soft fish, moist chicken? Tasting good is pretty rare to me-oddly, my protein drink concoctions are the best tasting things I eat most days. But regular food has odd reactions on my tongue--taste buds are revolting for the most part.

And I don't want to be a downer, but it might be a very long time before foods taste good. My husband will be a year out in October and rarely does anything taste good to him, even now. We don't enjoy food, we eat to live. There might be highlights here and there, but mostly we don't enjoy food. I would put that aside as a goal and focus on hydration and protein. And aggressively walking. I found it was really nice to push a fairly full shopping cart, hit Costco and walk around and you'll feel better, I'd almost guarantee it! :)

Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I have to say you have a way of making everything sound like its a breeze. I agree sometimes we have to just take the band aid off all at once. But i sure hope food doesn't revolt me for the rest of my life!! I want to enjoy food even if its only a small amount. I have had all the soft foods you mentioned. None of them tasted good. I guess because of my Latino heritage i am a very sensitive person and enjoy sharing feelings and expressing myself. I hope i can enjoy food soon i can't imagine going through life just stuffing something in my mouth for the sake of it not enjoying the taste of it. How sad. I have wonderful family and i want to enjoy meals with them someday:)

I am 5 weeks post-op and I was heavier than you when I had the Op at 235 pounds. After my 3rd week I only lost 14 pounds, so you are doing very well. There is a forum for light weights, which you can find at the op of the page. It is important to look at your % weight loss and not just the pounds you have lost.

You will get to the point where you enjoy good food again-just healthier choices and much less of it. This is just a temporary phase and I promise it will get better! You are doing great on your weight loss. Just hang in there for better days and keep following your plan. If I got through this you can too!

I believe you, thank you! Anything that is so life changing has got to be worth it in the end. There are so many sacrifices we make to get to have this surgery to begin with that it would be just heartbreaking for it not to have a rainbow at the end of the journey.  I'm so glad to hear when people post their success stories. You are all an inspiration to us newbies. So glad to hear a good note about enjoying food!! It's one of life's best gifts in moderation and making healthy choices. One of the reasons i made the desicion to have this sugery was to use as a tool for quantity and quality control not flavor. Thanks:)

I would say the first five weeks were the hardest.  Now I am 22 weeks out and have felt like a normal person for quite a while. It is very overwhelming in the very early on.  I was sure I would never taste good food again - or enjoy meal time or anything like "before" - that just isn't true!!

Hang in there! We promise it gets better.
