I just started with my starbuck kick again.. i have like 2-3 grande size skinny french vanilla iced lattes. It helps me get my fluids in and i feel like it's a treat. But it does have caffeine obviously. I am 5 months post-op is it a big deal to have a few of these a week with the caffeine?

My program says NO caffeine as it is a diuretic.  Have you asked your Nut?

The Mayo Clinic and numerous other sources say caffeine is only a very mild diuretic and the diuretic effect is generally only a concern if consumed in very large amounts.

Can't they make it with decaf? Our centre doesn't allow caffeine that early either.

Double check your R-N-Y notes about decaf is ok and skip the other stuff.  Did you get the H. pylori test done pre-op, which shows if you have it in your body? H. pylori causes ulcers and is aggravated by caffeine which could give you an ulcer in your pouch.  YIKES! Those lattes... check your label for calorie content.... it will most likely cost a lot of extra exercising to keep them from giving you extra pounds. Herbals and decaf is what they say is okay, but you probably already read about it. Be careful and be safe.

I was given coffee in hospital already. My diet plan includes 4 cups of coffee with skim milk.

I read an article on CNN health about coffee. It is a good way to get in fluids. There is not enough caffeine to overcome the amount of fluids in coffee. Obviously caffeine has other health detriments like hypertension and acid reflux. So like most anything moderation is a good idea. I drink a couple of cups in the morning and then switch to decaf coffee or tea if I want something besides water or crystal light.

I'm almost 5 months & I have not given up caffeine. I drink 1-3 cups of tea a day & I never gave it up. I'm more concerned about the other ingredients in your drink for the calorie intake. Personally I drink my tea in the am then I drink LOTS of water/crystal light etc. Sometimes I even have un-sweetened tea that I add equal or splenda to.

Others have indicated the caffeine is not an issue and they are correct.

However, as a sanity check, Starbucks' grande iced skinny lattes are 80 calories a pop.  2-3 equal 160-240 calories and that adds up.  I'm not judging you because they can absolutely be worked into a successful diet but those liquid calories are sneaky critters.  Good luck!
