Question about eating

Earlier today I was eating some chicken. It was really cut up pretty good and I dipped it in low sugar ketchup. Well, after I finished eating I just kept feeling like it was just in my throat. After 30 minutes I took a sip or powerade and immediately I felt like I needed to throw up. Ok. So the question, is this because I ate too fast? Too much? Air? What usually causes this to happen?

It's probably because it's chicken.  Many of us have problems with chicken.  Your pouch might not be too happy with the ketchup either just yet.  At 11 months out I still occasionally have problems with chicken.  I still keep going back and trying it again.  Dark meat is a little easier usually.

Chicken is hard.  It can be really dry too.  I have done the same thing and felt the same way.  I think my chicken was too dry and I ate too fast.  I picture it just sitting in my new little stomach and me eating too fast and it just piles up and keeps sitting there.  Then take a sip of a drink and the digestive system rebels, throws itself into reverse and you are throwing up.  I am very careful with chicken.

Try using greek yogurt as a marinade for your chicken. It will be so tender!

OMG I had the same thing happen to me last night. My hubhy picked me up a grilled chicken breast from KFC I finished what I could but that last bite would not go down. It was just stuck! Finally, got the foamies and then that bite came back up and I was fine. Ughhh it will be awhile before I try it again!

Your surgery was 7/11? I was still on liquids 20 days post op.  LOL  We were not cleared to try chicken until 12 weeks because it can be so problematic.

I would put chicken aside and try it later.

I am 3 weeks out and cannot tolerate any meats.  I do okay with white fish and tuna but anything else causes a belly ache like you wouldn't believe! I tried an boiled egg for the 1st time today and that settled well, but not anxious to do chicken or turkey yet.  I guess when I am a little further out, I will give meat a try again.

It could be that you didn't chew a piece very well or ate a little too much. At first it is easy to go 1 bite too far.

I could not comfortably eat meat for a couple years post op.  I could eat a few bites, but it sat really hard in my pouch, and I did not like how it made me feel.  When I experienced what you described in your post, it was because I did not chew well enough.  Almost 100% of the time I would throw up, but I would immediately feel better.  Thus I slowly lost my desire to eat meat which for me was a very good thing because pre-op I ate practically no vegetables rather ate mostly meat.  Post op the reverse is true.  I only eat a few bites of meat even today at almost 4 years post op.
