Kind of OT - another knee question

I have two very bad knees which give me a lot of pain daily..  Arthritis, bone on bone and apparently a ton of bone spurs according to the xrays done by the last ortho doc.  I have an appt. next week with an ortho who specializes in knees and hips.  I am going to see if he can go into each knee with a scope and clean them up and remove the bone spurs etc.  Just an interim move to relieve pain for right now.  I know I will have to have total knees in the future.  Has anyone had this done and if so was it successful (worth the lap surgery).  How long would you say your recovery was.  I know the doctor will answer these questions and recovery depends on me somewhat but I wanted to ask you guys.  I live in a two story and need to shower upstairs.  How long till I can manage 15 stairs.  Also there are four stairs up the front porch so to even get inside I need to climb a few.  What is my prognosis for this plan?

Had both knees done before WLS. Had my right knee first and then during recovery, I injured my left knee and had it done within 6 months. Both were quite sore for quite a while after surgery. Was planning on having the left knee done again as it was still very bad. But after loosing 147 pounds it does not bother me enough to even consider it. The weight loss was the best thing for my knees. So I do not know where you are on your WLS but I would advise not making be changes until after you are at goal.

Larry:

i am about halfway to goal.  I am delaying the total knee for evaluation till after I reach goal.  I was just wondering about the value of cleaning up the knees and removing the bone spurs.  A temporary fix to lessen the pain.  So you think I should just wait on everything till I reach goal.  They re feeling a little better with this 70 lb. loss. Curious as to what another 70 will do for me.  I am very surprised they are feeling better.

I've am now a 124lbs and planning to get other knee done. Some times weight loss helps but this time it will help not to drag 300lbs with me

FWIW, I saw THREE ortho surgeons to ask about the same thing... Just to delay the inevitable TKR, but all three said they do not go on and do that kind of "cleanup" anymore because it simply doesn't buy you much time at all.
