Am I eating too much??

I have a large support group of friends. Most of them have actually had weight loss surgery in the past. When they hear what it is I eat, they are all very surprised that I am able to eat so much. I am scared that I am eating two much only 3.5 weeks after surgery! I can eat an entire packet of oatmeal for breakfast with no problems. For a snack I can eat a tub of greek  yogurt. I am lucky if I eat 1,000 calories a day. At lunch or dinner I can eat about 10-12 bites of "normal" food before calling it quits. Am I doing something wrong????

Are you following your surgeon's meal plan?

I would start by measuring how much your eating, log it on Myfitness pal or something else. I think at your time frame I was eating about 2-3 tablespoons of oatmeal. (i personally didnt like oatmeal, since it was so heavy) About 1/2 cup of anything else. If you need call your NUT or find your guidelines from your doctor about how much you should be eating. As far as normal food, at 3.5 weeks you shouldn't be eating anything normal. And surely not 10-12 bites. You should be doing soft foods still.

So please call your NUT and find out what your suppose to be eating for this stage by their plan. Right now you dont have the feeling in your stomach to tell you that your full. So its very important to MEASURE your food and eat only that 1/2 cup nothing more.

By my plan at 3.5 weeks I was eating about 400-500 calories. And all of it was protein only, and mainly from shakes or protein powder added to my drinks. How much water are you doing? How much protein are you getting in? Are you drinking while you eat? If so that is why you can eat so much and not feel really over full.

YES!! I have been able to fly through his plan because I can tolerate pretty much everything: eggs, cottage cheese, cheese, fish, casserole, canned fruit, soups, lunch meat, meatloaf, stewed meat, stemed veggies, chicken, turkey, beef, toasted bread, raw fruits(not grapes, they upset my baby tummy), raw veggies, and salads. These foods were broken up into 3 phases, as long as I tolerated the first phase then I could move to the second and so on.

I have no pushed the envelope yet! I have not gotten sick. I put food on a baby plate and after about 10-12 bites, I can feel that it is time to stop.

See this where I get so nervous! I am following his plan! I was on liquids for 10 days. Then blended foods for 5 days. Then I started his 3 phases (as mentioned above). I have been doing that for 9 days. I haven't had any problems with any food. When I mention 10-12 bites, I am using my daughter's toddler fork. LOL!!

Are the amounts you're eating the amounts on his plan?  If so, I would not be worried.  I would just tell your friends you are following your surgeon's plan.

The plan says, "Eat only 1 oz of solid food over a 10 min period. If I feel full , STOP EATING. If I do not feel full, eat another oz of food over 10 min.

So is that what you are doing?

Ok, two questions ~

1) Does your oatmeal or your dinner add up to more than the 2 oz your surgeon said to eat in one meal ?

2) Are you doing any protein shakes ? I know on the days where I have more protein shakes, I have less calories & more protein by the end of the day. On the days where I eat more "regular food" and less protein shakes or no protein shakes, my calories are wayyyy higher and my protein is way lower.

Yes! I am following his plan. I am satisfied after the 2 oz. I get in one protein shake a day, which I realize I should be drinking two, I just can't stomach them. I try to get my protein in other things like fish or deli meats. It's so hard to stay positive when others tell me they can't eat as much as I do after having surgery too .
