Feeling a bit left out

Department party today. I can have cheese and cheese. One kind person made deviled eggs that I *could* eat, but I can't stand boiled eggs. Everyone was standing around, enjoying donuts, muffins, and potato chips. I had to go back to my desk and put my headphones on. This makes me a little sad. I'm only 7 weeks out, so I guess I just need time to get used to it.

Sorry you are feeling left out.  Maybe keep some snacks you can have there are work so when something like this comes up, you can just bring your own?

If you were diabetic you would have to pass on those foods, right?

Think of all of those other people who cannot eat what they may want to, but will not get the prize at the end that you will get.

I think the saying is "nothing tastes as good as thin feels!"

I am on my second day of pre-op liquids and I keep reminding myself of the above.

Hang in there - we are all here to support you!!

you'll get used to it. and then you'll be able to eat those things again and ultimately it will become a choice of whether or not you want to...not whether or not you're able to. personally, 9 times out of 10, food in the office doesn't appeal to me, but every so often, i join in.

Someone once said something to me that made so much sense and was so obvious except to a person that LOVED food.

' Lets have a pitchin but concentrate on the people not the food ' -----what, no theme, no favorites, no-----!

Learning to enjoy the company, conversation and the moment so the food just seems secondary is a skill , takes practice, planning and effort.

I do find it easier to accept these kind of situations you just described. Why?  I think it's losing interest in junk food, gaining new appreciation for healthy choices, loving life so much more than any donut can match, and most importantly loving yourself enough to keep trudging forward.  Yes, you are right, it takes time to get used to it.

I totally understand as it was hard for me at our family's 4th of July picnic as well. What I did was remind myself that most of the people there were making poor food choices (a lot of our family members are very overweight and honestly need the surgery themselves, particularly my father) and you can feel good about yourself being there knowing that you are making good choices. You get to be the role model for once, think of it like that!
