SO furious. I just have to rage. Nothing Weight Related

This morning I started going for a walk with my baby Stella (my 5yo Siberian Husky), we got to the second culdesac in my neighborhood and all of a sudden hear ferocious barking. I look over and two massive pitbulls are at a gate to my right and jump over the fence and started attacking my dog, I went into pure panic mode and started screaming bloody murder in the middle of the street. Eventually I dropped Stellas leash and told her to run but they had her pinned down. Finally a lady from up the street came running with a shovel and a rake and we had to use them to get the pits away from Stella. This, is by far the most terrified ive ever been in my life. Stella is my baby and she means the world to me. I felt so incredibly helpless and im sure she did too. I thought I was going to lose her this morning. and the thought of that rips me apart.

We went straight to the vet, she has two puncture wounds on her right hind leg and is on antibiotics and pain meds. You can tell she is scared beyond belief. She has to wear one of those huge cone collars too to keep her from licking her wounds.

I immediately contacted the police and animal control and everything has been taken care of. My husband and I are both furious. The man is lucky my husband wasn't home when it happened or his dogs would be dead. The owner has contacted me and told me he would pay for all the expenses but somehow to me that doesn't seem like enough. Your dogs literally attacked mine, just for no reason, because we were walking by. What happens if that was a child chasing after a ball?

This has been a horrible day, and Im glad my princess is okay. Shes miserable but will survive. Just wanted to vent.

I'm so sorry that happened.  I can't understand why some people don't secure their dogs better than that.

Definitely have the owner pay for all Stella's expenses - if they don't pay for everything, I would take them to small claims court.  Unfortunately, courts usually won't order irresponsible dog owners to pay for emotional distress or pain and suffering in these kinds of cases because the legal system views dogs as mere  property.

Did animal control remove the dogs from the home?  Hopefully the dog owner got a big fine.

No they didn't remove the dogs from the property. When animal control showed up the dogs were gone, they suspected he was trying to hide the dogs but he was at the vet. I know he will have to pay a fine because the dogs werent confined properly. Other than that, and my vet bills, dont know what else will happen to him.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I'm so glad your dog is going to be alright. It must have been an incredibly traumatic experience. The owner of the dogs should definitely pay for all damages/costs, and the dogs should be removed from his care immediately.

It upsets me when the wrong people end up owning dogs that they cannot control. Try to remember that it is almost always the owners fault, very rarely the dogs themselves. I hope your pup has a speedy recovery, and that nothing like this ever happens again.

All the best!

I am SO sorry about Stella!  I would have been terrified, too.  Yes, if those dogs can so easily get over their fence to come after your dog (who is just beautiful, BTW!), what is there to keep them from jumping the fence to go after a child?!? Definitely make sure they pay for ALL the vet and medication bills.

Do you know what action was taken by the police and/or animal control?

I hope Stella heals up quickly.

All we know is that they have been fined for confinement issues. In my mind I want to take him to court and sue him for everything he has but realistically i know that would never happen. My husband has contacted a lawyer he knows in JAG, and we'll see what he says.

I'm glad your puppy is ok. I hope the man does have to pay, and that those dogs won't hurt anyone else in the future!

I came outside one beautiful Sunday morning to find my neighbors Golden Retriever being literally pulled apart by my other neighbors pitbull and rotweiler. After screaming a few minutes and attempting to charge the dogs, the pit turned to attack me. I shot and killed him on the spot ( we live in the country. I have a permit to carry.) The Rot ran off.

Lucky the Golden survived after 2 surgeries and $$$

The other dog was found  destroyed later by law enforcement.

We lived down the street from a church, with a daycare.......

Both the Rot and Pit were the nicest dogs for years. We played with them all the time in there yard. Could have been VERY bad.

Hope your dog AND you recover well.
