Go on amusement rides? What are the restrictions?

Actually I have another question too. How long after can you go swimming?

THAT one I can tell you.  Whenever your incisions are completely healed closed and there is no chance of water (and bacteria) seeping into it.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Not sure about the amusement park rides.. definitely a question for your surgeon but I can answer the swimming questions.  I was allowed to go swimming at 4 weeks, WITH the binder on under my swim suit.

I would think 6 weeks if you are riding anything that really jostles you (assuming you had lap surgery... Longer for open).  I don't remember ever having been told or reading anything because most of us who have this surgery don't fit well on rollercoasters and such until we lose a bunch of weight.

I am not sure how long to wait. I agree with what was said before at least 6 weeks. I would ask your Dr. Just remember this is MAJOR surgery and it takes time to heal.

As far as swimming. I had to wait about 8 weeks because my largest incision took that long to heal.

I also agree with the others. When all incisions are healed for swimming and at least 6 weeks for lap RNY. My doc says it takes about 6 weeks for all your internal healing. That is when I was released to do moderate exercise so I'd think that it would be ok to do some other activities. Listen to your body, if it doesn't feel ok, don't do it. Best wishes on your journey :)

I had my surgery May 29 and went to Cedar Point and rode roller coasters on July 23. I never gave it a thought.

My surgeon said to wait to swim until all my scars were completely healed, about 6 weeks...I got in the pool then, and the pressure of the water was a little painful, so I just walked around. I was swimming 2 miles at 2 months out. I have not been to an amusement park, but I ride a power wheelchair on public transit, and the bouncing around is somewhat similar...take your pain meds with you as a back up...it should be ok, but sometimes the jostling around can be a bit intense, especially on the left side.

Thanks so much for all the responses. I know I fit at about 230 in all the rides, that's about 26 lbs. My son wants to go to six flags water/amusement park oct 12. My surgery is sept 4. Maybe doable ??
