Orthostatic hypotension

I almost passed out twice while scooping the litter boxes. I didn't drink enough yesterday. How long after drinking water does it start to help? I'm seeing my doctor this morning because I injured myself running for the first time, so I'll ask her about this, too.

I've fainted a few times from my blood pressure dropping, and I have not found that drinking extra helps in the short term at all. I have gotten dizzy at times when I was not remotely dehydrated, so I don't think it's always the cause, or the cure. Check your blood pressure on a day when you are well hydrated, both standing and sitting, to see if there is a significant difference. Fluid intake is not the only reason for orthostatic hypotension.

Even at my heaviest, my blood pressure was very good. Now, it is too low, so my PCP and surgeon have agreed that I should have MORE sodium to help raise it and if that does not help after 60 days, they will put me on a medication. I have nearly fainted a few times and caught myself to bend over and then slowly raise up, but it is no laughing matter. Be sure you are being tested several times a day for blood pressure as it might be elevated in the doctors office. They test mine upon arrival and at the end of my visit and it is usually lower at the end of the visit.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

My bp was 108/70. Too bad I read this once I got to campus.

Really, though, this only happens when I don't drink enough.

The doctor checked mine at different times and postures during a visit. It ranged from 94/62 to 68/48, and even at the low number, which was after I stood up from being seated, I never felt at all dizzy. If I didn't feel dizzy at 68/48, i can imagine how low it must be when I get lightheaded, or pass out.

I was told to use more salt also. If all you need to do is drink more, please, please do. But keep an eye on it also.

I fainted when I was a newbie and found the 64 ounces per day weren't enough for me. I had to up it to 86 ounces minimum for me to feel good and not feel faint when bending over or moving fast. I've heard you have to almost double your water intake to overcome dehydration, then when you're feeling better you can go back to 64+ ounces again. I too find most of my problem still are related to lack of water intake -even this far out. good luck - check with your doc to be sure and hope it doesn't happen again.

I get dizzy if I have less than 80 oz. I had no idea I needed that much water. I do get 32 oz before work. I didn't drink much more after that yesterday, though.

You also need more salt...
