I will have robotic laproscopy RNY  surgery soon. I had back surgery 5 years ago and I have rods and screws in my back L2 thru S1. I can lay flat but if they bend me backwards at all I may be in trouble.

Question: what position do they put you in for the surgery?

Thanks

Flat on your back.

They laid me flat on my back, I was even awake while they were strapping me down, not my best moment.

True victory comes at the very end, when you can say, " I lived, and will gladly do it again." View "failure" as a setback, and meet each accomplishment with a larger goal.

You can check with your ortho surgeon but I don't think you will have any trouble with having the surgery on your back.  I have had back surgeries (x2) and did not have any problem. The surgery you will be asleep so it won't bother you.  You can keep your knees bent prior to surgery to keep the arch in your back if it helps while they prep you.  The screws and rods will keep everything where it should be during surgery.  (I'm not a doc or anything - just telling you my experience - but check with your surgeon.)
