Good morning all,

I am almost 1 year out (October 1) and still cant seem to get in my protein without shakes:( My pouch doesn't seem to like the whole proteins (chicken, turkey, beef). I can eat lunchmeat and sometimes ground hamburger but that seems to be it. I am at the point where I am scared to eat those meats as I have been sick a few times and it wasnt good:( Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks! Kristi

I'm having a bit of the same problem.  My stomach just doesn't seem to handle regular protein very well anymore, I often get queasy when I begin to eat chicken, pork, even fish.  Sometimes I'm okay with them, and often I'm not, so I've started eating protein bars for lunch as it's an easy way to get the protein in where my stomach doesn't rebel.

I'm only 5-1/2 months out, so hoping that my stomach adjusts more and I can resume more protein during my meals.

Kristi, I can't tolerate chicken very well either but I've been really successful with the Atkins frozen meals. Personally, I have never liked to eat frozen food but its super convenient and since they are protein forward I've tried them all. I started off with the roast turkey and moved up all the way up to the Beef ones. They all have sauces which makes them moist enough and they can go up to 23g protein per meal. Most of the time I cannot eat the entire meal but I almost always able to eat the meats before I get full so that's how I get my protein levels in. I only do this for lunch, for breakfast I do the Kashi Cinnamon harvest cereal which is shredded wheat with 9g of protein and I let it sit in skim milk for a few mins and then eat it. Throughout the day I'll eat a Greek yogurt or a Babybel cheese to snack on and for dinner it is always a ground turkey, beef with a 1/4 of veggies. Good luck I know its hard to get all your protein in but I don't know how you still can tolerate those shakes....yuck! ;-)

Thanks for the input CubaQueen:) I have heard of the Atkins frozen meals but never tried them. I will make sure to try one. I think the main problem I am having is the FEAR of eating;) Especially eating something I have been sick on before and the fear of getting sick again:( As far as the shakes:) I have been through a bazillion of them and have found one that I can tolerate and get down at least once a day. My whole taste buds and view on eating in general has definitely changed:) Thanks again! I appreciate the input.

Have a great day!

I have the same problem and I am almost 9 months out.  Dense meats (chicken, beef, pork) often cause me problems and I often throw up after eating them.  I still try to eat them, because I know I should since they are so high in protein, but it often makes me feel horrible.  I still drink one protein shake a day, usually for breakfast.  I actually like the Premier Protein chocolate shakes (from Sam's Club).  They have 30 grams of protein.  I don't think I could get all of my protein in without a shake to supplement.  However, I am going to try the Adkins frozen meals.  Good suggestion!

It sounds like by "whole proteins," you mean meat?  What about other sources of protein?  Cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese?  Beans?  Tofu?  Veggie burgers?  Nuts?

Yes, meats:) Sorry I should have clarified that. I do eat cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese and nuts. I have tried veggie burgers and can only get a few bites down:( I think my biggest problem is FEAR. I have been sick a few times on the meats and really didnt like it. I still can't eat very much at one time so I want to make the best of what I eat count. I only have one shake a day. This is because I am so worried of NOT getting enough protein that I want to make sure I can get at least 1/2 and work to get the other half with food. Hope this all make sense and sorry if it doesnt;) Thanks so much for you input!!!!!!

Yeah, that makes sense.  I don't eat any meat and I can get all my protein without shakes.  I often do a shake for breakfast, though, just because I like my shakes.

You sound like my twin. I'm almost 4 months out and am having the same issues. Rarely do I get what I'm supposed to protein wise, let alone calorie wise. I think a lot of my problems are fear too. Plus I just can't force myself to eat as much as I'm supposed to be eating without really feeling nauseous.
