Need some advice

So I find myself in a unique situation. Tomorrow I'm getting dinner with an ex-coworker (she moved on to another company about a year ago). I always suspected, but never asked, that she had WLS. We were somewhat close but she never offered the info and I didn't pry. However, I have obviously since pursued and had WLS myself.

I kind of hope to somehow bring it up. I think it would be great if we could support each other in our journeys. But I don't want to offend her either, and if she doesn't want to tell me anything that's totally fine. But I'm wondering if maybe she knew I had the surgery she would like having someone to open up to. What do you think? Should I say something or not? If so, how should I bring it up? Thanks!

If I were you, and you're comfortable sharing, I would just tell her you'd had it done. It will give her an opportunity to share if she wants to.

If you ask her, she may feel pressured to answer or lie.

Thanks for the advice! I just know some people are very private (obviously she is one since she never mentioned it when we were working together). I want to be sensitive about it and don't want to make her uncomfortable.

Jessica if she hasn't seen you in a while she will notice a difference and probably comment. That can be your opening to let her know you had WLS if you want to open the conversation up. She will either say she has or not.

I would see how it goes. . . I would definitely tell her that you had it since you feel comfortable doing that. If she doesn't offer any information about herself, I wouldn't pry. Some people are just very private about that type of thing. We're always here to support you!!!
