At what point does gastritis become a problem?
I had my RNY on March 5th of this year. As of yesterday i am 7 months post op. In April because of pain and barely being able to drink i had an endoscopy which showed mild gastritis and acid reflux. I was on carafate helped for a few months and here i am again. Same pains all over again. I saw my gastroenterologist whom is concerned given my new symptoms that it's gotten worse but he suspects ulcer. I've been in the ER a few times for this pain already and dehydration. To top it off i was in the ER 2 nights ago because i was on the toilet going every 5 minutes literally i felt dehydrated. My labs at the ER weren't exactly indicative of that but the doctor said she still thinks i definitely was and i was given iv fluids, morphine, pepcid, and zofran. The nausea and pain has been horrible! Anyways i had a CT scan at the ER she said she wanted to make sure we weren't missing anything i am assuming she meant stricture or something? Anyway that looked good except she said they saw lymph nodes indicitive of a viral infection and it showed the gastritis so it's definitely back! She sent me home with some meds and told me to definitely keep my endoscopy appointment on October 22nd. My problem now is i am barely able to eat or drink anything. My food allowance has gone down significantly. Before i was able to eat up to a cup of food now i am back at 1/4 cup if i am lucky. Fluids have been hard too. I lost 1.4 lbs last week and already in the last 4 days i am down 3.4 lbs i mean obviously i am excited but is it because of being sick and not really able to eat? This is back to back weeks of loss for me... i've been averaging around 10lbs a month maybe most times 8lbs.
Carafate doesn't seem like it's working as well this time.
