Does this sound like dumping syndrome?
Hello everyone!
I will eat something that contains a small bit of sugar/carbs, and depending on the food, about 20-30 minutes later I may get a rapid heartbeat, sweaty feeling, lethargic and stomach pain(not serious pain, more like a belly ache). I never ever got the diarrhea along with the other symptoms. And oddly enough, I notice this feeling when I eat carbs rather than sugar. What are your opinions?
Sounds like you are experiencing a minor dumping episode. I have had it advance to really intense abdominal pain and dry heaves bringing about the "foamies".
Mine was always worse with fat than sugar. It varies.
Remember simple carbs are converted straight to glucose and enter the small intestine rapidly. Complex carbs go to maltose (converted by your saliva) then to the small intestine and glucose.
Pay careful attention to what you are eating when it happens. Find out what it is and try to eliminate or keep the intake at a controllable level.
Certainly!
Everything you eat is a protein, carb or fat.
Simple carbs are sugar. Table sugar, honey, brown sugar..you get the picture.
Complex carbs are made of sugar molecules that a strung together. Like a necklace. They are digested more slowly and keep you full longer (usually) They are commonly found in whole plant foods. Green vegetables, beans, peas, even your starches like potatoes and corn. Finally, whole grains and the foods made from them. Oatmeal, whole grain bread or pasta, etc.
Keep away from processed foods as much as possible as they are often high in salt and sugars.
Does that help?
Yes - it does sound like dumping, and I also dump on simple carbs (not just sugar). These are the foods you will want to avoid: sugar, honey, bread, rice, pasta, crackers, chips, white potatoes, cereal, cous cous, grits, tortillas, and anything made with wheat flour.
I even dump on things like whole grain bread/crackers, oatmeal, and brown rice. I do eat these things in moderation occassionally, but I am five years out.
I hope this helps - keep up the good work!
Debbie
