Any kind of meat doesn't sit well with me and makes me sick.

I am having issues with any kid of meat.  Chicken, Turkey, Pork, Fish, ect..... Even though its thinly cut and I chew it to shreads it will sit with my pouch and end up making me throw up and in pain for the rest of the night.  Bacon of any sort I can do and eat as much as I want without problems.  So this is very upsetting because Thanksgiving will be here and I won't be having basically nothing from the meal besides mashed potatoes and  home-made stuffing. I am 6 months out and am dreading this surgery. I will be missing out on Christmas Dinner to because it will be pot roast.... Again I can't seem to handle any kind of meat besides bacon. I don't have an appointment until November for my 7th month check up.... I don't know what to do......

You can always make an appointment sooner with your surgeon if you are concerned.

I understand it's frustrating if you like meat but can't tolerate it.

Do you usually just have turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing for Thanksgiving dinner?  No green beans, no salad, no fruit salad, no sweet potatoes, no corn, no rolls, no cranberry sauce, nothing else?  You can cook something else this year so that you do have something yummy you can tolerate.  I don't eat meat at all so I've always just eaten all the other dishes at Thanksgiving, but every Thanksgiving dinner I've ever gone to had a lot more than just turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing.  But anyway, I would cook some other dishes that you are able to tolerate that you enjoy.

Definitely would pursue at least calling into the office to discuss. Also wondering about how much meat you eat. Have you tried just a half ounce or ounce at a time? A lot of people seem to think that they have to cram 3 or 4 oz in. Not sure if that is an issue for you or simply any quantity at all causes this?

Momma,

I'd definitely get a hold of your Dr office to discuss. I have met a few people who have had to have strictures opened etc.. Cant say that is the case here because I really dont know or have the expertise. I can tell you that with all the people I know who have had RNY, at 6 months they are not having this problem with a single bite of any and all meat. You have to be your own advocate. Dont let up until you get an answer. Good luck and let us know?

I am going to start a new tradition this year.I am going to make a batch of butter nut squash. And I am going to add protein powder to it.I hope you feel better soon.I am a little worried about the holidays but trying to think of other food options so I don't feel like I am not part of the celebration of everyone together.

I would not touch stuffing or mashed potatoes, personally, until I was in maintenance and doing well in that phase. Try other proteins, you do not have to just have turkey. Plenty of other proteins are out there. And Thanksgiving is not the end all, be all meal. Try something less traditional-the point is to be with family and give thanks. Not fixate on an inability to eat turkey.

Try to focus on other things at these holidays other than the food.  It does seem odd that you can't tolerate any meat.  Have you tried thinly sliced deli meat?  I can't tolerate meat really well unless it has some sort of sauce.  Maybe chop your turkey up really well and have it with a lot of gravy??

I feel your pain, I too cannot tolerate meat of any kind since my revision for an anastomotic ulcer 6 wks ago. They all just sit in my pouch and i burp til i vomit. He made my stoma very small and said i will need at least a couple of dilatations. I spent a week getting tpn but thats not a long term solution. It was our ThNksgiving here today and my choices were limited...cooked everything but was careful about what i ate. I am hoping it will improve over time. I hope things improve for you soon..its so frustrating! kj

I'm 4 1/2 years post RNY and I still don't tolerate meat.  I occasionally have ground meat - but I have to have moisture with it (salsa/veggie juice/watery vegetable like tomato, etc.)  I only have meat about once a week.I can't eat bacon - it comes back up.  I miss meat but have vomited too many times and felt awful for hours.  It just isn't worth it.  My stoma and pouch are fine - just don't tolerate it.
