My surgery guide says that I should have cheese during the 'soft foods' phase, but i've been having it in small portions and I seem to be doing well with it. I use it as an accent to my protein. Thanks for posting this topic!

I am 5 weeks out and I am doing good with cheese. I eat full-fat cheeses mostly. I usually only put a tiny bit on beans or in some soups. I've found that the colby-jack cubes are a great snack at work. A serving is 7 cubes and that's about what I can eat at a sitting. I eat a lot of cottage cheese and the one I buy is 4% milk fat which I think is the highest fat count option. I love the fact that it's an easy protein.

Cheese, peanut butter and avocado are where I get the majority of my actual fat. Your body DOES need some fat and I'd rather have fat from that than from other sources. Now, if I were eating cheese left and right, it would not be good, but because I am judicious with the amount I eat, I do not worry about it. I do watch my total calories and make sure the primary calories come to me from protein, but don't freak on the fat side. I DO freak on the sugar side of things. :)

Great! Thanks for the advice... I was actually wondering about avocado! I loved it pre-op but have not tried it post-op due to the fat content and lack of protein!

I am 11 1/2 weeks out and dairy is my main source of protein at this point. Greek yogurt and cheese. Like others, I mostly eat full fat cheeses, but occasionally buy the low fat versions. I can't find that many LF versions, though, and that's why I initially started full fat. My greek yogurt is low fat, however. My nutritionist was givng me the evil eye when I told her I was eating full fat pepper jack, but.... still losing well, and if I didn't eat cheese I would be even further away from my daily protein goal (have had issues getting it all in).
Snack time! :)
