Is it normal my doctor has not given me a blood test in 6 months?

I am about 6 months out and haven't had one blood test done to check my vitamin levels or anything. He hasn't even mentioned me getting any done. I am starting to lose my hair lots and lots of it. I am turning pale. And I have no energy. I am tired all day long. I take my vitamins but they make me super sick and end up losing my vitamins.  I was just wondering if it was normal that he hasn't given me a blood test at all since i had surgery 6 months ago.

Ummmm, why not go to your PCP and ask for them to be done?

There are some docs that don't order labs until a year out but most do them at three months and again at six months.  You can call your doc and ask him to order labs for you.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I don't think it's that unusual. Mine did 3 and 6 months, but I have seen where some wait until 6 months. I'm going to request at my annual appointment that we do it every 6 months. I am paying for it so I don't think he will mind. I think it's prudent so you can see if you are trending down on something before you get to a deficiency. Just my opinion though.

I had 3 month labs and will do them again at 1 year since they were all normal or high at the 3 month visit. Not having had one at all since surgery seems odd to me.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

My program doesn't do 3-month labs. My pcp would have been happy to order them if I had asked her to. I did ask her to do full vitamin labs pre-op.
