9 months out, looking for some help

I'm reaching out here. Last time I showed weight loss was on 10/2 and after weighing in this morning I'm up a pound since then. So not only no loss in over a month, but a gain! Now, it's been a really rough couple months, first flying more than usual to visit my dad, who then passed away. THAT has been really hard to take; then I traveled outside Alaska for the 1st time in 20 years (for work - but got to see family I've missed for 40 years). Not too traumatic but def out of the ordinary for Miss Homebody. I have kept on exercising, though I missed a day or two traveling. I took my protein shakes and vitamins with me to keep that going. Downed enough water to drown a fish. Have almost no hunger and staying well within my calorie range and the only carbs I eat are veggies and a small amount of fruit. So I am feeling pretty down about losing only 70 in the almost 9 months since surgery. So many do so fantastic that I can't help feeling like I must be doing something wrong to lose so slowly despite working at it with all my might and main. Not that I regret doing this, just wish I could stop feeling like it's over for me.  My support group in town has shut down, so I'm really looking to some support here I guess!

Are you a lightweight? What is a day like in terms of protein and carbs? It sounds as if you are having a stall. Nine months is a common time to have one. I cannot remember your start weight but I seem to think you sre a lightweight. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong

I don't think I would stress too hard about a pound. I know it is not a loss, but we can fluctuate more than that in a day!

Are you tracking your calories?  I would try using My Fitness Pal and making sure you are not getting over 1200 calories. (My surgery day is 5 before yours and my doc recommends 1000-1200).

Regardless, I would not give up or feel like it is over. My guess is that you probably took in more calories than you needed to and didn't exercise like you wanted to.

Best of luck! I hope the scale keeps moving :-)

thanks for the replies - My surgery weight was 247 (I'd managed to lose some from my highest before surgery, and my little ticker shows that loss).  I was sure not stressing over gaining a pound ... more that I've not lost at all in two months (I did lose a lb on 10/2 and gained it back over the next month)....guess I was not clear before ~ So basically I have been in a two-month stall despite exercise (a varied gym class with instructor), tracking, and staying on program.

When things in our lives change and upheaval us it causes our bodies to react to this. It can change hormones, it is also possible that stress is making your body hold onto weight. As many as stated above that there are times that there will be a stall. I suppose I would be more concerned if you don't loss once your life gets back to 'normal' and things settle down.

just my opinions of course..

I have seen many who have stalled right around 9 months that go on to lose more weight, most to goal.  I know it's hard and it sounds like you have been working hard at this and to not feel rewarded after all that would be very discouraging but keep it up, have faith and I am sure your weight loss will pick up again.

You might try increasing your protein even more.  My mantra when I was losing, and even now, is 100 grams (at least) of protein and 100 oz (at least) of fluids a day.

Good luck to you and I am sorry to hear about your father.

A stall at nine months is not uncommon;  just keep on doing what you're supposed to be doing and stay off the scale!

Also, a gallon of water weighs about 8 lbs;  that means you're holding onto about a pint of liquid.  This is normal for staying hydrated.

My husband had a stall around this same time and then dropped 20+ more pounds before his one year anniversary. Just keep on sticking to plan and you'll break yours, too!

Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Keep working at it.  Don't give up.  I had a stall and it wrecked havoc in my life.  I am still fighting my gain.

Does anyone know if drinking tea and coffee goes towards your fluid intake for the day.

Thanks and good luck to all

Yes Tea and water count towards your fluid intake.
