Thanks, what about coffee.  I am such a huge coffee drinker.

I think that with all the things you've been going through you are under a tremendous amount of stress. Stress raises cortisol levels which can cases you gain weight. Also even if you don't feel like your diet was different I'm sure there were times when it was, make sure you're tracking your calories and stay at or under 1200 per day. Start with protein first, then veggies and fruit, leave carbs for last, especially empty carbs like pretzels and snarky foods. I'm 5 years out and started still 278 got down to 145 and the went back up to 180 by not keeping track of what types of foods I was eating. I stayed in my calorie allowance but was eating lots of carbs. Within just one weak of cutting out those empty calories I lost 7 pounds and am still losing. Stalls are also really common and making a big change in your diet as well as really tuning into how you're feeling and managing your stress can be all it takes to start you back on the right track toward reAching your goal. Keep up the good work, you can do it! Feel fee to pm me if you have anything else you need help with.
Peace,
Emily

I also had a stall around 9 months.  I didn't realize how common that particular time for stalls is.  You are starting out as a lightweight for sure, so your loss will be slower.  Up your protein, drink your water and make sure you are getting enough calories - I'm wondering if you haven't been eating enough and your body is adjusting to that??

Hi Ocalasam,

I didn't know that about lightweights in WLS.  I noticed the pounds are not dropping weekly like they were in the beginning. I have increased my exercise and wondered why the scale is about the same.  I guess as I get closer to goal the weight will be  slower in coming off.  Well, guess I will have 12-18 months of "honeymoon" to get to goal, then the "real" work will kick in of maintaining for life!

Not an easy task but doable.

Believe in yourself and don't ever stop dreaming!

Hi Susan I started slowing way down at 9 months but continued to lose for a bit after that. Can you post us an example of a typical days food - calories- exercise. With those we can see what you're doing and perhaps offer better advice. Are you getting in enough calories for the exercise you're doing? Is your body in starvation mode? How many carbs are you eating etc?

Thanks to all for your helpful replies!  It is greatly appreciated!

MrsLitch ~ I always have a protein shake in the morning, as that is all I can stomach and it helps with my protein intake. About noon I have a small protein meal, for example yesterday I had 2/3 C homemade chili with beans, and 1/2 oz of cheese.  Afternoons if I am hungry (rare) I'll indulge in some fresh veggies with either homemade smoked salmon or an oz or so of baked chicken.  Dinner usually fish and a salad, occasionally about 2-3 oz of steak with veggies. I do not touch baked goods or processed foods (well other than my protein shake).  I do drink a lot of water but now that I've given an example, it looks like my normal day is pretty low on both protein and calories - esp considering I either work out at the gym or run 4-5x per week.

Good info on the stress, I had read about it upping cortesol a while back but had forgotten about it; guess I hope the exercise will reduce it some.

Everyone, thank you again - I knew this was the right place to get some help!

At about that point I started stalling in weight loss also. I upped my calories a little and it started up again.

This might be a silly question but what does a lightweight mean??
