Pre-op Testing
on 11/18/13 11:20 am
I had it all done around 2 weeks ago, they told me it was the last step so I'm waiting. I have Medicare and Medicaid. How long does it usually take ? They told me alot of people want to have weight loss surgery before the end of the year. I'm going to St Vincents in Carmel.
How long does what take? The results? It would depend on the testing done. I did not have to have anything done pre-op other than some blood work for the anesthesia group, but that was a few days prior and we were already set.
What I know about medicare and medicaid would fill a thimble, so bear with me...but I thought one was for the poor and one was for the elderly, but that you had one or the other. I did not know you could have both. Is that typical? I know my mom fought TOOTH AND NAIL to be able to keep her excellent benefits when she retired, but was only allowed until her 65th birthday and then was forced on whichever it is for the elderly (insult to injury in her mind) at the age of 65.
Did they say why they want to have it before year end? Is it coming off as an option/treatment from the policy? If so, I'd be pushing hard to get in by year end, too!!
GOOD LUCK!!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
Medicare is for people 65 and old AND for people on Social Security Disability Insurance. Medicaid is for people with low incomes. In some states you must meet additional criteria for Medicaid - for instance, in Ohio where I live, you must be a family with children, 65 or older, or disabled AND poor to get Medicaid. Adults without children that are capable of working can't get Medicaid even if they are poor.
You can have both Medicare and Medicaid if you qualify for both. Medicare would be the primary in that case and Medicaid would be secondary. Medicare doesn't cover everything. With most things, they pay 80%. So then Medicaid would pay the other 20%.

How long does what take? Getting the results of your tests? That has nothing to do with what insurance you have and should not take two weeks.
