Yet another vitamin question!

I'm hoping to someday get this down correctly!

Anyways, I bought a new brand of Iron, it's from the Dollar General, the brand is DG Health, and it is a knock off Feosol. It's a black pill !? It is 65 mg of Ferrous sulfate. Question is, will this pill be adequate to take?

On that same trip, I also bought Sundown Naturals B complex with B-12 liquid sublingual. It's dose is 1 mg a day, and offers 1,200 mcg of B-12. Is this fine to take as well?

And finally, I got the DG Health brand of Calcium Citrate+ D3, 600 mg. per serving. These pills are huge, can I break them in half?, and how many a day should I be taking?  I am 30 years old and 8 months post op RNY.

Thank you so much!

You can take the ferrous sulfate.  I don't like that type of iron, myself, because it usually causes constipation and sometimes an upset stomach as well.  I prefer carbonyl iron because it doesn't have those side effects.

The B complex with B12 is fine.

Are you sure the calcium you got is citrate, not carbonate?  If it's citrate, it's fine.  You need 1500-2000 mg a day, so if one dose is 600 mg, I would take three doses.  If it's calcium citrate, I'm guessing one dose is TWO pills?  However, do read the label carefully to make sure it's citrate.  Calcium citrate often comes in doses of 630 mg (315 mg per pill, with TWO pills per dose).  The dollar stores near me never have citrate, only carbonate.  We can't absorb carbonate.

Thanks for answering Kelly, I was hoping you would. I am almost 100% sure this is a generic brand of Citrical, it was on the shelf right next to it. I apologize, I made a mistake when I was reading the label. The bottle says Calcium Citrate +D3, compare to the ingredients in Citrical maximum. And you are correct, the calcium is 630 mg in 2 caplets.  Is it okay to break these horse pills in half? ! LOL

Oh, no need to apologize.  I just didn't want you to be taking something you can't absorb.  Sure, you can break them in half (or into fourths or whatever).  I'm gonna have to check out the Dollar General near me. I usually go to Family Dollar and they never have calcium citrate, just carbonate.

Having said that, What is the best way to take these? Should I go ahead and take two at a time, even though I know I'm not absorbing the extra 30 mg from both, or should I take only 1 whole pill, along with a 1/2 of one pill and come out a bit short of a full 600 mg dose?

I take two at a time.  We can only absorb about 500-600 mg at a time, so I know I don't get quite 630 mg, but I'll get at least 500 mg.  I take three doses a day, so I get at least 1500 mg a day, probably somewhat more.  It works out close enough.

How are you supposed to take a liquid sublingual?  How do you keep it under your tongue long enough to be absorbed?   I would think you wouldn't absorb much of it at all and so it wouldn't be be any better than any other oral B-2 (which we cannot absorb).

Usually they come in a dropper and the amount you put under your tongue is pretty small.

Yes, just as Kelly said. The directions say to keep it under your tongue for at least 30 seconds before swallowing.
