I have to change my drug plan and I wanted to know what are some of the medications I might need, I know there will be pain meds, what kind liquid or pills and I hear sometimes we get gall stones what do you take ? I just want to make sure if anything comes up the medication will be covered. I have Medicare and Medicaid. Thanks

As for the pain med, my doctor sent me home with liquid oxycodone. I know doctors are different and I have read on this forum, people are sent home with different kinds. Actigall is the medication to prevent gallstones ( I hope I spelled that right.) I am lucky because my gall bladder was removed years ago, however I have read where kidney stones are a concern. I wish you all the best, I am a almost 2 weeks out and don't regret a second of it!! There are a lot of veterans on here, so hopefully one of them will answer your questions and have a little more insight on the meds.

I came home with 30 vicodin. I have 24 remaining and 2 of them I took for my leg when I fell, months later. :)
I did take the actigall and have three pills left, so tomorrow night is my last one.
Buying extra strength Tylenol, which I had NONE of in my house was great on a headache day. I take Flexeril on my period, but only at night, as it knocks me out FAST! Though many take it without that effect.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
Actigal is the med that prevents gallstones. Since there is only one med that does that, and since 32% of RNY patients get gall stones if they don't take it (and only 2% do if they do take it), I imagine most insurance companies would cover it. They might need documentation from your surgeon explaining why it's necessary but I think you should be able to get them to cover it. All insurance plans should cover pain meds.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
