You can take your multi with calcium at the same time? Is it iron I can't mix with that?

Yes, you can take your multi and calcium at the same time.

Calcium blocks the absorption of iron.  So if you have iron in your multi and you take your calcium at the same time, you will not absorb the iron in your multi.  My multi has iron but I need a big dose of iron (based on my labs) so I need a lot more iron than I'd get from my multi anyway.  So I take my calcium with my multi because that's easiest for me and then I take iron at a separate time.  But if you have iron in your multi and want to absorb it, don't take calcium with it.

I was given mashed potatoes, grits, yogurt and pudding one day post op and am instructed by my surgeon to have at least two protein shakes a day. You are right...follow the guidelines from your doctor.

Yes! The original poster and I are from the same center so when I went home the stage of food is FULL LIQUIDS meaning mashed potatoes, grits, yogurt, pudding, beans, cheese, etc... On day 5 we are to start protein shakes. I was given cottage cheese, custard, and applesauce in the hospital on like day 2. I drink broth for a warm mug of something savory and it counts toward my fluid intake!

When I was in the hospital all I got was lots of water over and over through out the day and ice. I got 1oz of broth and 1oz juice and 1oz jello everyday. Why am I not loosing yet ? I weighted 270 before operation then they weighted me later I was at 277 now 280 what is going on ?

But now that you are home you should be on the FULL LIQUID DIET!!!!!!

What other foods are on the approved list? Try out some others besides broth, juice, and jello. You need to moe through the food stages as directed.

You are the weight you are because of all the IV fluids they pumped into before, during and after surgery. Once that is out of your system you will see the scale move.

If this schedule is too daunting then just focus on taking your vitamins during your meals.

Eat breakfast and take your multi , calcium, and probiotic

Eat lunch then take your multi, calcium, and Vitamin D

Eat Dinner then take your multi, calcium,

Then at bedtime take your IRON.

Call the dietician if you still are having difficulty. Please remember to take the CARAFTE and OMPREZOLE as presctribed. These help with healing your pouch.

For my surgeon..and every surgeon I have had in the past for other operations, grits, beans and cheese were NOT considered full liquids and even the ones that allowed yogurt and pudding, it was pretty limited. Your surgeon actually calls beans and cheese liquid? That just seems wrong.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
