doctors not paying attention
Correct, it's only for accounting purposes. It's still scary that he signed it with the wrong dose, though.

It is scary! We, who have worked in the realms of the medical field could all tell tales of some of the nightmares and even being educated, I came home from my RnY with a hospital-acquired infection that hid in my system until June and then darn near killed me. Sometimes, even trying your best is not good enough. My daughter's best friend was in overnight for an ovarian cyst removal which is generally a simply, uncomplicated procedure. At the time, she had a 4-year-old and a new baby. Her husband stayed in the room with her but fell asleep during the night. For some unknown reason, the nurse changed an IV medication to a different one and left. The husband woke up to find our friend, dead. She had a reaction, vomited and aspirated while in her sleep and was not even able to press the call button. After this, I would wrap a sheet around my pump, IV bags and all the way to the insertion site so that they would HAVE to wake me up to do anything at all. I have eased up a bit, but I have it on my chart that I have to be awake for any IV refills or changes.
Oh how terrible.

Hi Kelly. I too, am medically disabled and receiving SSD. I did not know that if you get a prescription for your post rny vitamins you can deduct those expenses. Is that something nationwide or by state. If so, do you have to reach your medical deductible before you can claim your vitamins and supplements? It would certainly help if I could do that also.
Julie
You can deduct them along with medical expenses for certain things. My rent is subsidized by HUD. I pay part of the rent, HUD pays the rest. The amount I pay is based on my income, but they deduct medical expenses from my total income when figuring how much I pay. HUD subsidized housing is a federal program so if you live in HUD housing, then you can do that, too. When you fill out all the paperwork about your income and disability and stuff, they should be asking you about medical expenses. You'll have to provide copies of receipts and stuff.

Yeah. If the pill looks different, I always ask to make sure it's the right pill, even if it's a different color or something.

That is scary because some people would either not notice or not know anything was wrong. I actually know a lady through a social connection that basically eats a handful of vitamins a day (not WLS patient) and when I mentioned it could be dangerous to do that she said "Geesh, they are just VITAMINS!" and I could NOT get her to understand that they could be toxic because "If you don't need a prescription, it can't be dangerous." Dear God in Heaven, these people walk among us!

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
