I had my surgery on the 8th, drinking my water and 3 protein shakes a day and I walk but i get so tired, I want to do house work but I feel tired. I have lost 10 lbs. I have to make an appointment to have my incision looked at still red and so sore I can't sleep on either side because that one incision hurts so much and can't bend down on that side because it hurts. I did call my Surgeon's office she said I could make an appointment with my pcp to have looked at. I wish I had more energy.

My opinion, you are expecting too much too early. Even though I went back to work 8 days after surgery, my energy didn't totally come bac****il about 4 weeks post op. Also took weeks to ly down on the left side.

For Pete's sake, remember you have just had MAJOR abdominal surgery!  It took a good six weeks to regain my energy. I work from a home office, so had noon hour naps and went to bed an hour earlier each night for the first month. I let the housework and non-essential tasks slide and just did what was absolutely necessary. I treated myself to a couple of visits from a house cleaning service post-op. Well worth the money!

It's ridiculous for some clerk in your surgeon's office to tell you to see your PCP about  post-op pain and your incisions.  Pain control is the surgeon's responsibility and since he is the one that made the incisions, he should be the once treating you for redness and soreness, ensuring there is no underlying infection (which can quickly become serious).  Get on the phone first thing in the morning and be insistent that you get proper and complete post-op care.

An abdominal binder can provide good support and keep you more comfortable in the initial post-op period.  Sleeping on your side is not an option for most of us for a few weeks. Gravity works on all those things inside your belly that were rearranged during surgery and time is needed for healing.  Take care and be kind to yourself!

I agree with you Turn the Page.  If my Surgeons office told me that I would be furious!  I sure hope they get better soon but me and the Office manager and the weight loss center would be having prayer meeting.

I guess I better slow down, my surgeon is 3 hours away so I thought if I could see my PCP here it would be a lot easier. I will try to rest more, Thanks everyone.

Take it easy! Rest! You are just a tiny bit post op! Of course you are tired!!!!! It will get better! At 11 days post op I needed a daily nap still.

At 8 weeks post I take care of my 2 active toddlers and work out 65 minutes daily! It'll get better!

I think it's normal to be tired at this point.  Ignore the housework, at least the non-essential things, and rest.  Definitely get in to get that incision looked at.

I'm 3 weeks out, still sore around the incisions, but now I can sleep on my side and twist around in bed without any pain.  My energy is not where it needs to be, but I am back to work and doing exercise 5x a week.  It will get better each day, but I know how hard it is to be patient if your anything like me.  Good luck.
