My daughter was just turning 3 at the time of my surgery and I decided against it. She would have freaked out seeing me hooked up to the IV's and in general I had a hard time getting my pain under control and was very out of it, so it wouldn't have been good...You know your child best though, its best to play it by ear, wait till you see how you feel after the surgery, you may feel great or you may want no one around.

My children are 3 and 21 months. My husband stayed with me up until I got to my room and then I sent him home to be with the girls and my mom. He came to get me when I was discharged. When I was hospitalized when my water broke at 27 weeks with my 2nd daughter, my oldest, who was only 15 months at the time, visited me a few times (I was hospitalized for 2 weeks) and it was scary for her. And it was difficult for me to have her react that way. It is only two days. You will be tired and medicated and sometimes in pain. The environment is cold and foreign and medical. It will be difficult enough for you daughter to see you in pain and adjusting at home post surgery. Both my daughters had a hard time adjusting. My eldest asked lots of questions and wanted to see my "boo boos". I answered all her questions and complied with her curiosity. She'd come "check " on me and lay with me in bed. In my opinion, a hospital is not a place for a young child unless absolutely necessary. Like I said, it's only 2 days and you need to recover.

I was in the hosptial less than 24 hours from check in to check out. I would not have wanted my kids of any age there, but especially not a child as young as yours.

Really consider the value of doing it and how you'll receive her if you are having a crummy first day. I had a great first day and wouldn't have wanted anyone there beyond my husband.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
