Tired of protein shakes

I will be at pureed stage soon, do I still need three protein shakes a day? I'm so tired of them. Right now I have to take my Calcium after I drink one.

many nutritionist have different guidelines. Mine required 2 protein shakes up until I was at the restricted foods stage, now I'm back down to 1. Although my NUT wanted me to have 150g of protein a day, or as close to it as possible, I would have to drink shakes all day to hit that number. Check with your doctors guidelines, and good luck to you.

Wow, 150 grams is a LOT of protein.  Why did she think you needed that much?

Her response was 1/2 of my body weight. I sent you a message asking for some advice, but hadn't heard back.

I didn't get the message.  I just went and checked right now and don't see one from you.

We don't need half our body weight in protein.  The ASMBS recommends 1.1 grams protein per kilogram of our ideal body weight.  Our idea weight, not our current weight.  That works out to about half our ideal weight.  So unless your ideal weight is 300 lbs (eek!), you probably do not need 150 grams of protein.

I don't see why you'd need three a day.  How  much protein is in each one and how much protein are you aiming for in a day?  It's easy to make a shake with 30 grams of protein and in that case, two a day should be enough for you, I think.

If you're tired of protein shakes, though, you could try the Unjury chicken soup protein.  You could also make protein pudding or protein jello.  Or hot protein drinks.  Add chocolate protein powder to a cup of hot decaf coffee and top if with a dollop of fat free coolwhip.

Thanks for asking this question. I am 4 weeks out from surgery. I am on  pureed/soft food stage. I have 2 more weeks until i move on the the last stage.  I am SO sick of the shakes. I have a allergy to sunflower so my shakes are very limited. You would be surprised that sunflower is in a lot of things.  Im doing well on soft foods but almost cant stomach the shakes. I was nauseated yesterday thinking about drinking one. It was awful. Kelly how do you make the pudding? I would appreciate any suggestions as well!

What is the name to look for to know if sunflower is in something?

Helianthus annuus and Safflower. FDA doesn't make manufacturers identity what is in vegetable oil. So i usually avoid items that just read Veg oil. Its very frustrating.  A lot of the protein powders and premixed drinks have sunflower. Im.actually anaphylactic to it.
