How to figure out the percentage of excess body weight lost?

I'm just curious how to figure this out! Not a math whiz! Lol I started at 306 and I am at 166 right now. My dietician told me that I've lost more than the normal percentage of excess body weight so I'm just curious!! She told me that I might have gone into maintenance bc I haven't lost in a month and I've already lost so much but I'm only 7 months out and I'm not to my goal yet!! Any tips? I'm at about 800 calories a day, I exercise, don't eat bread or pasta or those type of carbs, I drink plenty water, and I get in all of my protein. Any advice on how to get to goal?

I just had my first post op visit with my surgeon. They gave me a chart with all my weigh in numbers for each visit. On top of that chart, they had a place for 100% EWL. I was actually a little stunned at how low that number was (for me). I won't be aiming that low. In any case, you shoudl talk to your surgeon or their office and see what they have for you. For me, I looked at the BMI charts and decided that i would be happiest in the normal BMI range, albeit at the high end of teh range. My Dr's 100% EWL was at the low end of the normal BMI range.

This question drives me a little nuts, and I never got a satisfactory answer from my program. One time they said that 100 percent of excess weight loss would have put me at 150 pounds. Yikes! I'm 6'3", at 150 I'd need to be hospitalized.

My opinion, for what it's worth, would be that an "ideal" weight, on a chart, would be right in the middle of the healthy BMI range. But that is still just an approximation.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.

Something seems amiss for sure.  The chart used by my surgeon says a 6' 3" male should weigh between 176 - 216 pounds.  You might reasonably use 196 as your ideal body weight for these calculations.

Just remember it's somewhat arbitrary so don't obsess over hitting 100%.

They pick a number they consider your ideal body weight, usually in the middle of what is generally accepted as normal based on your height and sex.  It's somewhat arbitrary but you have put a stake in the ground somewhere.

So let's say your normal body weight range is 120-140 and for argument's sake we'll call 130 your ideal body weight - right in the middle.  Everything above 130 is excess weight.  If you started at 306 pounds then you originally had 176 pounds of excess weight (306-130).  To calculate the percent of excess body weight lost just divide the amount of weight you lost by the amount you originally had.

You currently weigh 166 pounds so you've lost 140 pounds so far, or about 80% of your excess weight (140/176).

At seven months out, you are probably not ready for maintenance yet.  Stick with your program.  You will continue to lose for a while.  It's common to stall.  Try mixing up your exercise program to see if you can get started losing again, but don't give up.  You can make it to your goal.  Stick to your plan.  You might even need to up your calorie I take just a bit...
