Dumping

I think I just dumped for the first time on some raspberries. I am moving out of the pureed/soft food stage, and into an “easy” food stage. I have tolerated everything so well; I was starting to wonder what all the fuss was about. I've had no pain, no nausia, no food intolerance, and even an appetite. Now I know.

I learned a pretty good lesson tonight. Dumping sucks. I don’t want to do that anymore. After the wave after wave of nausea, I am thankful that my body will now help me stay away from foods I shouldn’t be eating anyway.

If all you had was nausea, it was probably not dumping.  Not every kind of stomach distress is sumping. The hallmark symptoms are rapid heart rate, shakiness, dizziness/lightheadedness, and flushing.  Sometimes there is nausea, intestinal cramping, or diarrhea.

i am very surprised that raspberries were on your list for "easy" foods since they are not particularly easy to digest.  Even on my surgeon's very liberal food plan (soft foods 3 days out, solid sense foods like chicken after 14 days), raspberries were not on the list until over a month put. My guess is that you system just objected to the berries (especially since the glycemic index of raspberries is pretty low).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

They were not allowed for 6 months on my plan. One that had you having them in a few weeks post-op would be very surprising to me. Dumping on them would be really unusual per what my nutritionist has shared with me.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

I know the plan from my clinic is a lot different then what I read on this forum, but after reading all the responses, I started wondering if I really knew what I was doing.  I went back and thoroughly read my instructions and sure enough berry's (General term, not specific to raspberrys) are allowed after two weeks in my puréed stage.

Rhanks for for the responses. Sometimes I feel like a dumbass with these questions, but I leRn a lot just from lurking and I really appreciate that.

Agreed.  Dumping on whole fruit is uncommon to begin with and raspberries specifically are among the lowest-sugar, highest-fiber fruits out there.

I could eat raspberries at one week post-op! I always did fine with them, but I never ate fruit alone just to be safe.  I ate them with yogurt or cottage cheese or some other protein.
