Is it possible?

My husband (10/12) and I (5/13) have had NO complications whatsoever. The majority of patients at support group have no complications and I'd wager than half that do, are non-compliant. Complaining that a Wendy's Baconator burger made you sick, for example, is NOT a complication...but we actually had someone self-report on that last Oct or Nov at group. I know for a fact my mouth fell open at them saying that!

Sure, there are complications, but the rate is actually very low and you can view the rate for your particular surgeon and hospital, since that is what counts and not the national averages.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Hi,  I haven't posted here in a loooooong time, but I had no issues or complications after the surgery.  All went as planned.  I do have to be very careful with sugar (not from dumping syndrome) as I seem to have issues about an hour or so after (my blood sugar crashes), so I don't eat much sugar at all -and really you aren't supposed to after surgery anyway-.  Other than that, had the surgery in 2010 and going strong even after a pregnancy!  It's been a year since I had my DD and I only have about 15 pounds left to lose (would have lost it already, but I BF her for a year).

Good luck! :P

Hi pghgirl,

I am over 8 yrs. post op and I have had NO complications at all during my WLS journey.    I am so grateful and thankful for that because when I had my surgery LOTS were having lots of issues.    I agree with everyone....most don't have complications but you hear about it on these forums because people are trying to seek out answers for their issues.    Hope your one of the lucky ones with no issues.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I had zero complications, was home in less than 24 hours, and went out with friends on day 5...back to the office (desk job) on day 7 :)  It varies for everyone, and I am not sure there is a way to tell if you will have issues.  Ask your doctor how many surgeries he/she has performed, what their leak rate is, what their mortality rate is...if you have a good doctor and go in with a positive attitude, you will hopefully join those of us who are complication free!  I had RNY on Dec 16 at 351 and today I am 292.  I feel A-MAZING!  Good luck!

Eighteen months out and no complications here. I had one episode of dumping and have never gotten sick other than that. I am a rule follower though and did as my doctor said. I reached goal in about 8 months and have maintained since then. You hear so much about complications here because people are seeking help. Many who are doing well don't post because they are busy living life.

This is a great point that isn't made enough.  I had no complications, big or small.

I am almost two years out.  Have been at goal weight for about nine months, and have had no complications.  My labs are excellent and my comorbidities age gone.  I am 55 years old and had high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.  I take my supplements, stay active and log everything I eat in myfitnesspal.  I know that my life is not charmed, and that complications can still come my way, but do what I can to stay healthy and give thanks daily for my return to a healthy life.

I had no complications, although there are those who think that dumping and RH are complications, I think they are miracle reminders to never eat crap.
