Someone needed this post, to remind them to fall in love with themselves!  We took a HUGE step to change our lives and have WLS; not everyone feels great about their decision and needs that reminder that your looks do not define who you are.  I loved the "fat girl" I looked at everyday, but I love the "skinny girl" just as much (although shes more energetic, outgoing, and fun to shop for!)  Thank you for sharing!

I DO NOT think this guys was bs/ing you at all.  What would be his motive for that?  Why would a plastic surgeon who makes a living changing appearances tell you to love yourself the way you are???   I'm so glad I read this post today, because I am FAR from perfect.  What is "perfect" anyway??  I don't think there is anything wrong with plastic surgery at all.  I would consider a boob job, but I just don't want to pay for it and go through anymore surgeries.  I got some great bras (VS, as recommended on this site) and only I know the truth about my dismally deflated breasts.

Wise man. I loved the old me. And it does take time to get used to a new body, but I love the new me too! Hangy skin and all! Would I get it removed if I could? Sure! But since at the moment I can't, it's me, and I love me, no matter what.

I can love ME, though, and still hate my thighs.  I am SO much more than my ugly thighs (or any other part of my body).  Those are two very distinct things.

I feel so conflicted on this post.  I agree that you can love yourself and still choose to make changes.

It almost seems like there is a parallel being made here, ie if you want to make changes to your appearance, then you don't love yourself or are only focused on the exterior.  That is a pretty broad brush to paint with.  On the other hand, if the point is that we should love and accept ourselves as is, then I'm wondering what the reaction is when he tells that to people who come to him for facial changes - unless he only does trauma procedures.

I loved me then, I love me now and I will love me if I'm approved for a reconstructive procedure.  They're separate issues, in my humble opinion and not exclusive.

Exactly.  I love myself but hate my thighs.  If I had unlimited funds, and was not terrified of necrosis post-op complications, I would probably have a thigh lift, but having ugly thighs doesn't keep me from loving myself... Just keeps me from loving that part of me.
