Hi Pat,

Congratulations on RNY in two weeks!  I am sorry you don't have a support group, but honestly I get way more information on this site than in my group.  Use the little symbol that looks like a magnifying glass to search topics on here.  Click on the magnifying glass symbol and search vitamins or protein drinks or whatever you want information for.  For the most part, every question has been asked 100 times so you can easily find an answer!

Each person eats a little differently.  What works for one person doesn't work for another.  I would say the 3 commandments are: PROTEIN first - more than 60 g per day, 64 ounces or MORE of water per day, and don't drink during meals or for 30 minutes after.  Everyone follows those rules.  How many calories or carbs you want a day is an individual decision.  I opt to eat low carb, so at 3 months out, I am basically at 700 calories per day with 70 g of carbs and 20 g of carbs.  It works for me.

Good luck!  A whole community of people is here cheering you on!

I have a very angry pouch today and I haven't been able to eat anything. :-( I think the little bit of chicken I had last night wastoo dry. I only had about 1 oz before I was stuffed. 30 minutes later it was coming back upn it was still coming up 4 hours later. Now my pouch is protesting.

So far today I have had 3 protein drinks. I am behind on my vitamins, but I am working on getting them in. I walked 2 miles at lunch. Maybe by dinner time I will be able to eat something.

DCGirl- you are always traveling. What kind of work do you do?

Ooooh sorry to hear about angry pouch :( As I've mentioned, I have a steel pouch * sigh * so nothing affects it. I wouldn't mind a happy medium. Anyway...I hope you feel better soon and can have more than a protein shake this evening. At least you didn't let angry pouch affect you walking two miles. That's awesome!

I work in International Marketing for an educational technology company. But Puerto Rico is a personal trip-my mom was diagnosed with cancer in early Feb and I booked us a three night getaway so she would have something to look forward to. She was successfully treated and it appears to have not metastitized so the outlook is good! I'm just glad she is so excited. Now I hope we don't argue on the trip :) I do love her but sometimes we drive each other bonkers! Lol

Em, SOOOO glad to hear about your Mom. What a scary thing your going through. So glad you are taking this trip with her. Sweetie, life can be so short, cherish all the good days and even the bad days, because we can't get them back. Enough of that, I'll start to cry!

Goodt day today. Went shopping with my daughter. I needed to know what size clothes will now fit me. (I HATE shopping). I tried on 22/24 and it fit a little too loose from the top half of me, so I bought 18/20 (stretchie tops and skirt). I was so surprised. I was wearing 28/32 (though I wore them loose fitting because of my huge stomach) Yay! Now just wish I actually had money to do more shopping!

B: Premier Protein

L: 12 pieces sauteed shrimp (cant believe it's not butter, minced garlic, few tsp lemon juice, salt (very lightly) and pepper. I also splurged on 1/2 cup canned corn kernals with light mayonnaise, grated parm cheese and tapatio (was trying to mimic the flavors of corn on the cobb, mexican street style). Probably not the healthiest lunch - there goes my size 18/20

S: 2 strawberries

D: 1/2 cup tuna salad (light mayo, sweet pickle relish)

Question. My surgeon told me to stay away from caffeine, and I would like to try protein coffees, so was just wondering what type of coffee do you all drink? Caffeinated or decaf? (I think i've read here, caffeine was fine, but I'm trying to follow doctors orders as best I can).

Hi Renee!  Thanks for the kind words :)  It is scary to have to face something like this, but since my mom is in stage 2 and it hasn't metastasized yet, we are feeling positive!

I hear you on the clothes shopping!!!  Last weekend I bought size 24 pants and jeans, and ordered size 22s to be delivered (they didn't have any in the store because I am short so i need 22P).  I thought, oh I will wear those in a month.  Well they came and they fit!!  The 24s seemed a little baggy but I dunno, I just bought them.  So now I just wasted $120 on two brand new pair of size 24 pants.  Sigh...

That is AWESOME you are 18/20!  I am going to have to buy new tops because although I can wear my 22/24s they look big on me.  We are rocking this pouch!!!

Re: caffeine, the advice is all over the board.  My NUT says don't drink it but my doctor was like, you can have coffee.  I have one cup of caffeinated coffee a few times a week, and I have a cup of decaf maybe twice a week.  Yes, in theory caffeine can "dehydrate" you but I drink 80 ounces of water a day so I think I am doing ok.  It boils down to personal preference.  Tons of people on this site drink caffeine and are still alive and kicking it, and losing weight to boot, so my non-medical advice is GO FOR IT!  LOL

Have a great weekend!

Breakfast protein shake

Lunch boars head turkey with cheese stick and lettuce

snack greek yogurt and almonds

dinner chipotle black bean burger and broccoli  (I had bought some frozen salmon for dinner, but when I checked the stats it had 30 grams of fat for 3 oz.  That is a too fatty for me so I gave it to the kids. (and cat)  I really want to know what they added to give it so many calories/fat.   Lesson learned...always read labels.)

Amen on the labels!  I found that out of three veggie burgers at Trader Joe's, only one has good protein and is low carb.  I wonder what the filler is?  That's good you noticed, and a black been burger sounds tasty too!
