Complication or stomach bug?
I am four months post RNY surgery. I have had what I thought was a stomach bug or flu for 3 days, but now am wondering if I could have some kind of complication. I never feel like eating, nothing really sounds good and when I do eat I get stomach pain - it isn't unbearable but it's definitely there. It's all around my belly button area, both sides. So far I'm not at any risk. I'm able to eat and drink enough to survive, just want to know if anyone has any insight into knowing when we're just 'normal sick' and when it's a complication. It's been going on for 3 days.
A stomach virus usually causes nausea and often other symptoms, like a fever. If you're having pain when you eat, it's probably not a virus. I'd call your doc on Monday morning, unless the pain is really bad or you have other symptoms, in which case I'd call now or go to the ER. In the future, if you're having problems on a Friday, I'd give your doc a call during the day when they are probably in the office. That may save you an expensive weekend visit to the ER.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
If the pain is around your belly button, it isn't coming from your pouch (and is a bit low to even be coming from your remnant stomach). As Kelly said, usually a bug of some kind involves other symptoms, but you don't mention any nausea, diarrhea, fever, fatigue, etc.
it sounds like to you need to call the doctor Monday morning.
