Question about post op food
I was wondering what type of food were not able to have after having an RNY surgery, somebody told me that they can never have strawberries again because of the seeds and I was wondering if this is true. What foods are you Never able to have again ? I am prepared for the no sugars, white starch foods, flours and that but wondering what else I will never have again.
also since I have a week before my preop starts I guess I wanna know what meals I wanna have to say good by to. And since I love strawberries, blackberries and banana smoothies seeds and all I know I will have a couple of those.
I had strawberries and blackberries last night with dinner. Yummy!
Right now, the only thing I steer completely clear of is fried foods and heavy sweets. I will have a bite of something carby if I really want it (like a roll at dinner), but I have a much stronger stop button than I did before so am able to stop at that one bite and I make sure I log it in my food diary. If and when that changes and something becomes a trigger, I will tighten up what I'm doing. I had to do that around the winter holidays when I went from being "perfect" to loosening up a bit. I noticed I was grazing so made my own rule that nothing went in my mouth without being on a plate first. I just needed to do that purposefully for a few days and got back on course.
I know things like this will pop up over the rest of my lifetime and part of this process is learning how to deal with different kinds of food. Some things I don't tolerate well so I could eat them, but would feel awful. Other things I can tolerate well, but its not the best use of my limited pouch space and as my hunger starts returning, I know I need to really be mindful of planning my meals to get the most bang for my buck.
The only thing I miss sometimes is taking a big bite of food. All I have to do though is watch someone else do it and I get a little grossed out and don't miss it so much anymore
Well for the first 3 months I let my stomach/pouch heal...But now I can eat literally ANYTHING I could pre-surgery...Including steak, salad and strawberries... The only thing I guess I can't have is anything with sugar OVER 28g or I dump. Other than that I can have anything, even cereal with milk and berries.
Warmly,
Jackie
There isn't anything that I was told never to have again so there isn't anything I put on a "forbidden" foods list. There are also only a couple of foods that don't agree with me since my RNY (almost 7 years ago), so that list is very short. There are lots of things I choose not to eat, or eat very rarely as a treat, but I still eat small amounts of sugar, pretzels/Doritos/etc., buttered popcorn, or pizza (I just eat only the toppings after the first 2 bites), and I even occasionally have half a cupcake or a cookie.
There is no reason, once your pouch has healed that you cannot have strawberries or blackberries again.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Yes - what they said! No seeds while you are healing. No skins for me early out - just could not chew them up enough.
Now at 13 months out I can eat anything. I don't do battered/fried things... greasy doesn't agree with me. I also do less than 12 grams of sugar in a meal. I can do fruit sugar.
I was a little lactose intolerant at the beginning but that passed.
I cannot tolerate sugar alcohols at all.
Asparagus and pineapple feel weird now. Stringy?
I consider myself lucky. I could eat anything .I have a steel pouch lol BUT I CHOOSE not to. l went with a big surgery to lose weight that came with strings! My eating habits are better than ever. I get my recommended amt of protein, my veggies and the only sugar I do is fruit sugars. I dont eat anything white, I stick to whole grains. Its not about depriving yourself, its about healthier choices. I just know my weaknesses, so I dont even entertain the thought of trying them. Good luck!!
