New RNY
Hello!
Just had a RNY on Monday. I'm still in the hospital, but hopefully I will be able to go today. I'm still feeling pretty uncomfortable, and the sight of food makes me want to vomit! Even clear liquids or liquid medications. I am starting to get the gas pains into my shoulder and back. How long is this going to last? And when did you start feeling like your normal self??
I had the gas pain in my shoulder too!!! I didn't know what it was. I thought I injured my shoulder or something. I want to say that maybe for a month I had the shoulder pain. Walk, walk, walk.....that's the best thing to relieve gas. Hang in there, a lot of things are tough in the beginning, but it gets better......And it is all worth it!!! Welcome to the losers bench!!! ![]()
Stop for a minute and think about what just happened. You just had major surgery on your body. Your intestines rerouted. Your body is still trying to figure out what the heck you did to it and how it should adapt to the changes.
Now to answer your question. Gas pains I had for a couple of days. Pain from the surgery a week or two but it wasn't severe enough to require pain meds after the first few days. Feeling like my normal self again? Well that's a whole different thing there. I never have felt the same way I did before surgery. The good news is the changes have been mostly positive.
As far as physically feeling better, well, I was 44 at surgery and in menopause so the hormone blast from all that estrogen that burns up with your fat left me way off kilter for about 3 months. I was a moody, *****y mess. Times 5.
Congrats on your surgery. Remember to take it slow and you'll be fine.

Walking around helps with the gas.You may hurt but it is best to get up and move around they pump so much gas in you to look around and .It will make you feel better. You do need time to heal so you need to rest also.
Keep trying to get your water in.Try warm liquids they help a lot.
Best Wishes to you.
Congratulations! You will have a new normal after the gas pains and drains (if any) are removed. You can get rid of gas pains by walking and doing arm exercises and by asking for gasx or simethicone drops. They will help you but you must ask for them. I wish you all the luck. Remember move around as much as possible even when you it. Remember to use a PILLOW on the ride home for your stomach and walk around your house inside and outside when you get home at least every hour.
“Let someone love you just the way you are – as flawed as you might be, as unattractive as you sometimes feel, and as unaccomplished as you think you are. To believe that you must hide all the parts of you that are broken, out of fear that someone else is incapable of loving what is less than perfect, is to believe that sunlight is incapable of entering a broken window and illuminating a dark room.”― Marc Hack

I had surgery last tuesday. I had gas pain in the hospital but walked as much as i could the third (which was my last day) in the hospital. Being home i moved more and most gas issues were gone within 2 days at home. I discovered that a big part of my back pain was the awful bed at the hospital. Since being home i feel wonderful. I mean....i still take pain meds for the surgery related pain...but i am feeling good. I also felt sick at the thought of eating and drinking at the hospital. It also go better when i got home. Although breakfast still has be feeling bleh most mornings.
So it gets better :)
